Male hippopotamuses reach puberty at about age 6. Looks like Humphrey was feeling the burn of testosterone. And he liked it.

Hippos are responsible for more deaths per year than any other animal in Africa.

I'm pretty sure the Anopheles mosquito kills more.

I would have more respect for the guy's position if he had said, "Yes, I realize it's dangerous and one day it could kill me, but I'm willing to take that risk." Nothing wrong with dying if you accept and know the risks; everyone dies.

Well, the mosquito really doesn't hurt anyone, if we are gonna go down that road...you know, being the vector and all.

“Humphrey’s like a son to me, he’s just like a human,” The Guardian reported Els saying earlier this year.

Yeah, this is probably a lot like having a 15 year old son in many respects. I remember when my boy dragged me down to the lake and tried to drown me.

Good Times...

And he's provided a great negative example for potential hippo owners to see.

I use the term owner loosely, because it's obvious that in the hippo's mind that it was never "owned". And just what the guy is doing in the pic shows that he's got no respect for the hippo.

Yes, good point. Please everyone, be a responsible pet owner and have your pet hippo spayed or neutered.

To be fair, he was not trying to kill his owner, he was just trying to get his "marbles".

The only conclusion I can reach is that you are a vegetable.

They kill more humans than lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo and rhinos combined (according to the ABC video).

I think they just have a stronger union.
