Looks like he's just getting used to clipless pedals and got confused.
That was exactly my fear becoming reality there. That is exactly why I started with SPD's. The knobby soles or rubber soles of the shoe allowed me to pedal and then clip in afterwards. I still use SPD's on my road bike just because I'm used to them now.

He looked like he had no idea what he was doing. I like how the cameraman just kept filming while the girl ran to see if he was okay.

Now what's the odds of the bike suddenly turning like that and he going right between the trunks? He lucked out.

Bike race entrance fee, 10 bucks
Re-truing front wheel, 40 bucks.
New Helmet, 100 bucks...

Getting the camera man's girl's phone number while he films... priceless.

If you look real close the front tire hit the branches and turned sideways, causing the bike to go sideways.
