Stumped!

What do you get for the entirely too wealthy family member who has everything, and can buy the company that made the stupid crap you are going to get them anyway? I have to get them something cuz they are family, but I am so tired of trying to come up with thoughtful stuff. I was visiting over Thanksgiving and I saw two of the Christmas gifts from a couple of years back in an upstairs closet, never opened. Well the gift was opened but still in it's packaging. Oh well.....

Any ideas?

If you can't cook. What about a picture/painting/drawing/photo ?

If you're not artistic what about getting a high quality blank book and organising your family members to all write a little note or three. You could combine it with photos from occasions past.

Maybe you can find something really quirky on eBay for them that's tennis related? An antique racquet? Rafters balls...?

I can't afford **** this year, so I am going to buy a cedar board and carve objects out of it, and give them away as presents. My GF is going to get a heart with our names on it.

Balls I say.

Seriously atleast the gift would get used. Just check what brand/type he favours and go buy a can.

Definitely something that can be consumed...and keep it simple.

Candy or nuts
Bottle of local wine
Gift card to bookstore

Isn't it the thought that counts? Oh no, sorry, forgot. This is christmas. The gift is all that's important.

Oh well.

Go out and buy what *you* want for Christmas (a brand spanky new bike or three, perhaps), put it on the credit card, then give *them* the bill as a present.

Reverse psychology and all that.

Might help them realise how crass wealth has made them (sorry, I come from a poor here-and-now and reading the bit about unopened pressies in the back of the cupboard wasn;t nice).

Yeah, it's not the nicest thing, but on the other hand, that's the thing with all the superficial gift-giving and all the rest of it. Sooner or later someone's going to get something they didn't particularly want.

In all seriousness, just do your best, and don't stress about it. So you don't have as much money as they do -- big deal. Either they'll appreciate the fact that you've made an effort for them, or they won't. And if not, you'll know not to waste any time on them next year.

just get them a bottle of wine and some cheese. don't bother getting a lame present (they just end up in the closet) - you'll just be wasting your money and their time and space.

Maybe I used the wrong word but it is the same character in an older story. In the DaVince code you should see a mention of an earlier case for the vatican in which he (langdon) is involved in.

Get a card and put something sentimental in there and call it a day. I prefer a gift that involves THOUGHT more than money.

That's why I usually run away during the holidays... there's not one person in my family that ever puts thought into a gift for me. One year, my sister gave me a fat girl dress... and her fat butt couldn't fit into the dress, whereas on me, it just hung like a sack. No thought... stupid heffa.

It's the thought that counts (or should be). If they look down on a gift you've gone out of your way to create for them for sentimental reasons, then they aren't worth even purchasing a gift for. So go with a gift that you put together that shows them how much you care about them.

Koffee
