Yelling at your boss.

Anyone ever done that before?
I kind of feel bad for this guy, almost everyone at one time or another in the 3 years that he's been here has yelled at him at least once. He's kinda slow at picking up things and is kind of arrogant sometimes.
So this morning the director of engineering has me put together a design package of all the design options for this project we're doing. Anyway, the senior engineer, whom I work for, comes over and has me explain some crap to him about the design package.
Goes like this.

Guy: So how does this and this and this work.
Me: Explains it.
Guy: Right... so what does this do?
Me: Explains again.
Guy: So if we use this, what are the final specs?
Me: I can't really say cause that's what we're meeting on this afternoon.
Guy: Well why can't you tell me.
Me: Cause we haven't met on it yet, it won't be fair for me to make the decision without getting input from the other engineers.
Guy: How am I not fair to people?
Me: We can't just bypass everyone and I don't have time to sit here and explain these things over and over again.
Guy: You don't have time? You work for me, you make the time, you give everyone else time.
Me: That's cause I don't have to explain things to everyone else over and over again 4, 5 times.
Guy: You don't have to do that with me!
Me: Good. This conversation's over.
Director: Guys guys, calm down, don't kill him!

I had a similiar situation with someone, but he wasn't my boss. There was a situation I was working for this guy (who is a boss for another department). I emailed him twice on the status and "plan of attack." I also talked to him 2 times on the phone to let him know what was going on. Suddenly, he emails me to ask me what was going on. For the fifth time, I had to repeat to him what was going on. It wasn't that complicated. All I did was cut and paste what I sent him before. He replies, "Thanks for the explanation."

Hmmm, lets see. Yep, been there done that...

Try explaining VPN to Phds, MDs, and CPAs. (Psychologists, Psychiatrists, and bean counters)

At least the CPA hooks on the cost savings and is pacified..LOL

I have yelled at two bosses in front of co-workers. Once when I was 18. And again at age 40. What I learned (eventually) was this: have your resume ready. You gonna need it.

Cept this guy has almost no pull or authority in the company. Almost everyone who works under him either ignores him or bypasses him.
His inferiors yell at him, his superiors yell at him, people from other departments yell at him. Frankly, I'm starting to feel bad for yelling at him now. Arrogant and slow as he is, he must be pretty miserable working at a place where 90% of the people don't like him and 10% don't care.

I once fired a boss.

He was stealing, so i told him that if he didn't have his resignation on the owners desk by 5pm that i was gonna rat him out.

I am one of the lucky ones. My boss is actually competent. I have had the dumb boss situation before, and it's no fun.

Most bosses are a joke.
Around here they simply delegate work and prance around making
phone calls. They tell other people if someone else has finished something.
They can barely operate their Email. They have higher bonuses.
"Got that done yet?" is not a skill.

Yeah, at my last boss. She had no idea how to run things, let alone be professional. She kind of stood around in her expensive pumps with her coach briefcase and chanel suits looking like a clueless idiot, then when we got the work done, she took the credit. Then if you tried to talk her out of her (always) stupid decisions that ALWAYS backfire later (which she would then blame us for), she would go medieval and lose it. So finally, I quit. Just cleaned up my office and walked out of the door that night and never looked back. It just made me laugh so much every time I replayed those messages from her asking where I was the next day after she read my "I quit cause you suck" letter I left on her desk.

Plus, she sucks at being my sister too. I can't stand being around her.

Ouch....I can't wait for my "liberation day" from a 40 hour work week.
You're self employed now aren't you, Koffee? Must be nice

I once had a boss that micromanaged me to the extreme. I once threw a pencil at him... crumpled up paperwork in front of him... cut him off... walked away during conversations, etc.

Did I get fired? Nope, I now have his job and he's working for me as a consultant.

Man, my sister is a stupid heffa. She micromanaged so much it was like no one could breathe. Everyone was afraid of her... well, except me. I would call mom and dad on her if she was way out of control, and she hated dealing with our parents. But still, she was just a terrible manager who didn't have any business sense. Last I heard, the manager of her facility walked out on her in a fit. She finally quit. But she lied to the investors and told them she fired the manager. But they're all running around there like chickens with their heads cut off. I am laughing my butt off.

I am self employed. I'm poor, but at least I'm happy and I don't come home at night hating my job and myself for being part of something I hated so much. And I couldn't stand seeing her anymore anyway. My life is soooooooo much better poor and self employed than less poor and working for her. Bleah.

I haven't seen her in a year, but I hear she's not happy.

Koffee

I sometimes feel left out since I have always had competent, intelligent and friendly bosses that largely leave me alone. I have no anecdotes.

I got written up for writing a sarcastic email. I was asking for a decision from my supervisor and when I didn't get any I said "I guess I will just do it the best I can and everyone will have to live with the consequences."
Lesson learned: Don't wine on company email.

haha, old navy! actually, the problem was that it had to be holiday-oriented without being suggestive of any actual holidays (the PC way of life, of course) so it was plain, except it had snowflakes on it, ya know, to suggest the holiday. It was that or snow tires. He said "thats not in your nature, is it?" which I assume was a joke. I said dryly "no sir, I love the *****" then there was akward silence.

CLancy

Man that's sad when everyone's afraid to show any holiday spirit for the sake of being PC.
