My cat is strange...

My cat is strange. She eats fruit bread, pastry and to top it off mushrooms! That could help to explain why she is so fat. But she is cute and i love her

Killing her with kindness, maybe. Obesity is as rife in the pet world as it is in the human one. If you really loved her, you'd see a vet, put her on a diet, and enjoy her existence until whenever.

Dude its not like she gets that kind of food every day. We only know she eats the food because she randomly trys to eats it while we are eating the food. We gave her a home, she was the old ladys next door then she died and left the cat with no home so we took her in(much to my step fathers hate).

It's hardly surprising. Cats eat just about anything. Just be glad there are no canetoads in that part of the world.

I think bread gives cats eczema.

Our female cat loves cheese and yoghurt but the male one won't touch either.

I was keeping a cat for a couple of months for a friend and everytime I ate ice-cream (no milk, yogurt or anything) he would streak across the room and jump on my lap to smell the spoon. Would not lick it but would just be happy to sniff it. He also used to wake me up by chewing my hair in the morning for his breakfast.
I missed him when I finally found a home for him and had to give him up. Even though I am a dog person that cat really rocked coming home to.

Yeah, wonderful. Cats, behind humans, have been the one species responsible for the elimination of more wildlife from the Australian landscape than any other (and probably on other continents, too). Plus, the seas are raped of fish stocks to feed them. Stocks that conceivably could be used to feed... humans! All because affluent people in Western societies think they're cute as pets. The only thing a cat is useful for is controlling a mouse or rat or snake plague on a farm. And even then, their value is questionable.

You should move to China, pets are illegal there.

Geez, my cat can't get a grip on the ocassional mouse problem in my house.

"you are useless!", I tell him, "useless!"

Sometimes I even feed him Tuna that is meant for humans. The wife does not like that.

My cat is a valueless manipulator!

I doubt that humans would want to eat the fish products that go into cat food and I think the issue of ocean fish stocks goes a little deeper that that.

Of course not, most of it is probably just scraps, the equivalent of "fish hot dogs".

Regardless of the fact that she doesn't always eat like that, this cat is still obese and will probably have a lower quality of life because of it... add that to the painful death caused by obesity.

It's irresponsible to allow your pets to get that big, and though we understand the cat is not originally yours, by taking that cat in, you take on the responsibility of caring for the cat. So it would be as equally a responsibility for you guys to get that cat healthy. Otherwise, what's the point of taking the cat in to begin with? It'll die on it's own with the old owner dead, or it'll die with you slinking around excessively fat.

Have any of us actually seen this cat, or read an exact description of it to know if it is, in fact, obese? From the way many of you have been talking about this cat, I get the impression that it's a 30# Jabba the Hutt lookalike. I have a 20# cat, is he obese? No, he's a male (which are bigger than females), and while he eats well, I feen him a quality, healthy food. I may give him a treat now and then (less than once a month), and when I do, it's no more than 2 or 3. I have another cat that loves french fries, popcorn, Fritos & tortilla chips. Do I feed her this every day? Again, no. If I'm eating any of those things, I'll give her a piece or two, and that's it.

We've got one of those too... devil's spawn, we think. Peaceful most of the time, mad as a cut snake the rest.

Loves chicken and cheese. Never interested in the fridge normally, but open it to get cheese out and she's there before you even touch it. Strangest little thing...
