Google ad-bot is funny!

Perusing the Houston Chronicle on-line today and here was the article tag line:

Bush urges action against steroids

and here was the ad-bot contribution at the bottom:

Thinking seems to be absent from online advertising placement.
I've started collecting AOL, Yahoo and Google ad mistakes.

Example: AOL entertainment ran a story about Nick Nolte being sued by parents of a teenage girl, claiming their daughter had been drugged and sexually assaulted at a party at Nolte's house. (The Nolte grunge head shot isn't his worst, but it's still awful.) Ad running in the right column: "Single? Find a little naughty for your nice" with menus for "I am a ____ seeking a ____ between ___ and ____" keyword "LOVE@AOL"

Yahoo news:
Judge rules in trial of Martha Stewart's former broker that jury can consider phone log entry against defendants.
Sponsored links: Kmart Martha Stewart Kid Products; and an online store linking its ad in Martha Stewart Baby magazine.

Yahoo finance:
Article about 7th Circuit Court of Appeals striking down SBC-lobbied IL law that would have allowed 70% rate hike, finding it was adopted in violation of Federal law.
Ad in middle of text: SBC/Yahoo DSL sign-up.

And then there's online ads in general, such as EarthLink's "NO CREDIT CARD REQUIRED", but the offer is "Valid with major credit card orders only."

The Web has a wealth of material for marketing case studies.

Thinking? There is no thinking. It is all automated, mindless, computer-generated placing based on keywords.

Tucked into the Bike Forums/General thread "DANGER: don't use paypal when ordering bike stuff!" is a Google ad for PayPal (seen here 12/06/04). Wonder what the click-through rate is on that.
