Hey, Dipper! Long time no see!
The one that used to really annoy me was sovereignty pronounced "sov-ren-ity". Where the heck does that come from? Haven't heard it pronounced that way in years, thankfully.

You used to be able to hear some good ones over the store intercom at Walfart:

The manager of our jewelry department would always say "julie"; her staff would say "jewry".

One of our phone operators, when announcing the morning staff meeting (locations TBA daily, this day in what's called an "action alley", due to high expectations of sales), would say, "actionality." If calling for customer assistance, this one would call them "customuns."

It annoyed me for a while, then I just started laughing at it.

Best one I know, and I've witnessed it, is what a lot of older black folks say: instead of "electricity", it's "electwicity". My sister's husband (10 yrs my senior) does it, I almost draw him into talks about it just to hear him say it!

At work, we run a backup of our point-of-sale database daily. I have some I.T. background, so there's a logbook and stuff. The backup takes 3 minutes to run, so the guys started passing the time by putting doodles and witticisms in the "Comments" box. You know, the one where I'd put notes like "Backed up QuickBooks to encrypted flash drive #3 prior to updating QuickBooks to release R8 and rebooting."

At first, I was irritated. This is TEH SACRED LOGBOOK OF BACKUPS being abused here! Fools, I'll destroy them all, etc etc.

But on further reflection... if that's what motivates the employees to run the daily backup like clockwork, then heck, I should make the Comments box larger and provide a box of crayons

you would be amazed the difference a box of crayons or some chalk will make. One of my favorite bars had such an issue with graffiti, they eventually painted the walls black and left out chalk. It cut the clean up budget in half. No re-painting the place every few months.

Thanks, you too! Heading down to HK to spend Christmas with my sister and her inlaws (which usually means lots of Champagne) -- then parents heading out this way for Chinese New Year!

Huh -- hadn't thought about it, but certainly not a silly idea! Won't be traveling with my own bike, though. Also, I'm terribly, terribly out of shape at the moment. Super long work days mean I haven't been bike commuting at all for the last few months
