Sudden Hunger

Oh yes, it is a Ruben's thread... who else?

This is the deal, hungriness use to be something that would set up *gradually*. You would feel a little hungry first, then a little more hungry, and so on. But now it is like a split second change. One moment I'm fine, not hungry at all... and the next I'm hungry like if I haven't eaten in days.

When this "sudden hunger" strikes, it is incapacitating. I can't think of anything else but food. It comes with a belly ache and stomach growls. It doesn't let me think. Any task being performed at the time (internetjoring usually) has to be put to stop until satisfying nutrients are consumed.

I've been doing some research on the topic. Apparently there are well documented cases of "sudden hunger" in several medical boards. Going by the most common causes, Rube could be:

1) Pregnant?
2) Overworked? (LOL)
3) Depressed? (nah)
4) Medicated? (nope)
5) Dibetic? .... oh crap... now I'm scared for real.

When I read the diabetics possibility it caught my attention because I know overweight can lead to that. I've been gravitationally challenged lately so I ran to the scale. Back in 1998 I hit my record weight of 250. Then came the "great weight loss of 2009" and I went back to 150. That was 100 pounds lost in a year by staying away from sugar and riding the bike daily. So I checked....

To my surprise, I'm only weighting 192 pounds. I thought I was a lot bigger than that. I sure feel like it. No doubt, lack of exercise will screw you up. I'm sure some bike riding regiment can put me back in shape. But back to topic, this "sudden hunger" thing is getting annoying.

I read somewhere that sometimes you have a deficiency of xyz vitamin or something, and you get hungry because is the body's way of letting you know that something ran out and needs refill. I went to the pharmacy today and got me some multi-vitamins. Lets see how that works.

...gotta go, I'm hungry again...

Ruben, I hate to say it, but you missed the obvious cause in your list:

6) spontaneous zombie munchies

I think you're pregnant. Go have some pickles and ice cream and you'll be fine.

With a bit of salt and butter, you've got yourself a meal fit for seasoned zombie. Add a bit of wine, and now we're talking gourmet.

Btw Ruben, you can never leave Foo. You're the main reason I keep coming back. It used to be phantomcow and his landlord adventures, but haven't seen him in a while.

Maybe eat more protein? That tends to stay with you a bit longer so you don't get as hungry.

The whacky weed is known to cause hunger, rather suddenly.

I *think* I have the protein taken care of. Most of my meals have some meat from either cow, pig (ohhh pig) or chicken. But I sometimes get a protein bar and end up feeling a lot better through the day.

You know what I think? I think this has something to do with the corn. You know, corn-fed cows, corn-fed pigs, corn-fed chicken, corn infused beverages, corn syrup in everything else... Pretty much everything has corn in it now days. Maybe I need a steak from a good-ole grass fed animal.

For how to tell if you have diabetes, this page is good.

For losing weight, this was an inspiring study. A guy didn't eat for 382 days, and lost 276 pounds.

I've had this before.

On one trip, after getting off the plane, I just had this insatiable hunger, so I went to the buffet and ate about 3 meals worth for breakfast. And I still ate 2 meals worth during lunch and dinner on the same day.
