Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Weird Computer Problem.....

I have a Toshiba Satellite Laptop, and I started having streaks of dead pixels in the screen. Now, here's the weird part.....it seems to be slowly self repairing, the dead pixels are slowly reactivating. It occurred after we traveled for Christmas. The puter wasn't banged around, and it was in a well padded case. Nothing was stacked on top of it, either.

So, what ya think happened?

The only winning move is NOT TO PLAY.

On the serious side, that happens when a pixel was just "stuck" instead of "dead". These are usually fixed by displaying something flashy over the area.... This page has more info on it. And back to the funny remarks. I've seen "stuck" pixels come back to life when a pop up window with a rapidly-flashy Viagra add was laid over it.

Could be a pinched ribbon cable, too.

Aliens are controlling your laptop display. The "zombie" pixels are actually putting out light in the X-Ray frequencies, signaling the mothership.

We use to use Doom or Quake to "wake-up" the "sleeping" pixels on laptops, but any video intensive game will probably work just as well.

This is my call.

I have a similar issue with a laptop my folks gave me. All arrows point to bad contact on the video ribbon cable. I haven't yet worked up the gumption to do yet another laptop teardown to fix it.

Since it was a streak of dead pixels, I too feel it's a cable issue. Maybe take the screen off and reseat the cables.

IF it is a bad screen, they are easy to replace. I buy them from this place: http://www.blisscomputers.net/

You may even be able to upgrade the screen. I bumped my Dell 1012 up to a much higher resolution.
