I need a new DVD/VHS player

My 12 year old DVD/VHS player finally bit the dust. What's the latest quality units available these days? I don't want to buy top of the line equipment just a middle of the road quality player without recording capability if possible.

The players will be more or less the same, go to a store and check out the remotes. If the remote makes sense to you, that's the one to buy. Alternatively, make sure your current preferred universal remote recognizes the code for whatever DVD/VHS player you plan to buy, including being able to switch source on the player from DVD to and from VHS.

I think it is that thing that flashes "12:00" on top of my grandfather's TV.

I have a cheap Magnavox unit. I keep it in the computer/exercise room. I have about 35 or so VHS movies left that are not available on DVD, and it is not worth my time and trouble to convert them.

Go to goodwill and see what they have for VHS. Hook your computer to your TV for DVDs.

Avoid the hand cranked ones with the big megaphone for a speaker.
