If you enjoy sailing it's an easy overnight trip and well worth it.

Do they allow flying boat landings?

Yes but you have to get a special permit through the everglades national park office. There's no available fuel there so you have to be able to make the round trip on your own tank.

    Permanent snorkeling only.

From the airiel view it looks a bit tricky to come in by sail boat for a tourist.

It's actually pretty easy. The channels and anchorage are well marked and the water is so clear you can easily see the hazards. If you have a head on your boat you have to have a holding tank because the area is a no discharge zone.

I think if I borrow a Martin Mars from the Canadians, I will have plenty of fuel.

Nowadays, I sail like I bike, slow and steady. But once upon a time I was one of those young guys flying a hull on a Hobie16 so I know what you're talking about. A fast cat is like a fast descent, incredibly thrilling and a bit scary.

    At least it's not L'Hydroptere.

I really want to build a Tennant cat, probably the Great Barrier Express, probably 5-layer cold-molded. I also want to use a big traction kite like a Flysurf for a rig instead of a conventional mastsail. The whole idea of putting a compression load that big on an unsupported transverse beam just reeks of poor engineering.

Come on over to the woodenboat forums, the guys there have lots of great construction tips and they're expertise isn't limited to wood.
