Songs that make you go gerfinklespeokerclonginschnizel

Sometimes, I'll get a song stuck in my head and I really like it, but then, when I play the real version, it's much worse.

Constant Craving by k.d. lang is one of those. I love her voice but when I play it in my head, it's always a downtempo, moody song. I so much want to actually listen to the song as its played in my head but I always end up with a song filled with accordions and bongos or whatever.

Judy Garland's Over the Rainbow is another one. Again, when I hear it in my head, it's a moody, melancholy song yet when I actually hear it, it's not.

I'm sure what's happening is that I hear the singing and the singing is, in both songs, in minor chords, making the singing melancholy but when coupled with the music, the songs, in their entirety, become more uptempo, happy songs.

Two songs I like more when they're in my head. What about you?

I am sooooo sick and tired of hearing that Whitney Houston sing that trademark song on ALL the news programs. She has been buried already, let her RIP for Christ's sake. If I hear it one more time I think I will rack one in the chamber.

This. Sounds ok but when I sing it in my head it sounds totally foreign.

When I hear this it makes sense, but not when in my head.

Quick fix: Listen to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version of it instead.

This is what I love about covers of songs. Even if it's a song you already like, someone else's rendition of the song can bring completely different qualities forward, or give you a new appreciation for the song.

True. I actually did listen to IZ's version. Definitely more like what I had in my head but not quite.

+1 IMO, not many bands can cover Led Zeppelin successfully.

The Immigrant Song sounds more like this when it's in my head:

Right now I am stuck on a local band from the 90s that got back together. Fever in the Funkhouse.

Lead guitarist went onto to play with Jack Ingram and Eleven Hundred Springs

Drummer played in Tripping Daisy and Polyphonic Spree

Lead singer went to NY and worked in theatre and did a bunch of small projects

Not sure what the bass player did.

    Really talented little four piece.
