OT: Green Day concert

Way off topic, but I thought I'd ask. My 12 year old daughter wants to go to a Green Day concert next week. It's her favorite band. I know they aren't known to be vulgar, but the last concert I went to was Metallica in 1991. Anyone seen Green Day in concert? Is it safe for kids? Thanks.

How in the heck does a 12 year old even get into Green Day?

I know they're pretty mainstream now, and have been for years, but...anyways, I think that so long as you go with her it would be fine. The show itself is relatively tame as these things go, it's the crowd I'd be worried about.

Is it general admission or is there seating?

If it's general admission just stay out of the "pit" area and you will be fine!

A lot of swearing, but you can tell its an act (and quite a good one).

If you deem it not appropriate for her, go yourself. It'll be great.

By themselves - not a chance.

With a parent...potentially...

Since today seems to be Foo in the 41 day:

Depends on your definition of "OK." She would definitely be encountering booze/drug use. Is that OK unattended for her? Depends... Does the Green Day "family" generally watch out for its young'uns?

Sigh... I just can't believe you're considering, much less asking, this question.

Either you're the kind of parent who's OK with his 12 year old child being surrounded by deviants or your not.

It's America and it's your choice.

No, take her. I'm sure of it now. You need to experience those things at some age, and at 12 she doesn't need to be babied anymore.

That said, buy some Etymotic ear plugs-

http://www.etymotic.com/hp/er20.html

Cuts the volume in half without ruining the sound.

I saw Green Day years ago, but was in a box seat. They put on a great show and when I went, they let a bunch of young teens go on stage and play a song with them (and keep the guitar)

Just make sure she doesn't absorb too much of their liberal messages.

I'm just A ****ty old man, the world owes me so **** you.

Time of your life is an aberration. The vast majority of Green day is not appropriate for a pre teen IMHO.

And even on time of your life, there's the F word on the beginning of the track.

Take this all with a grain of salt becaus I am in fact a ****ty old man turning out like my dad.

But the world does owe me so **** you.

Deviants? That's an odd thing to say.

Really, how so? Consider the general behavior of rock concert attendants and I think you'll understand my point.

I took my kids to all kinds of concerts from age 11 on. One is a lawyer, the other a dentist. OOOOH that nasty rock and roll really harmed them.

Just explain before hand that there will be the odd F bomb, some drunk people and she may even smell marijuana. Let her know your thoughts and she will base her own opinions with your bias. Great bonding time!

The green day that I saw 10 years ago in concert are not the same band as you and your daughter would go see today

I would be more surprised to see a drunk 20 something at a green day concert than a 12 year old with her parents

Here is my point..u will be around more social deviants in your local shopping mall than at a Green Day concert. But i'm sure you let your children run around your local shopping mall. Sure there will be drugs and a few wierdoes at a concert, its just the nature of rock concerts, but at some point u have to believe in how u raised your children. If u are uncomfortable with them going alone or with friends..go with them. Just my 2 cents

Obviously, you're completely out of touch with reality.

I think you need to stick to yelling at kids for playing on your lawn and cutting up their nerf footballs
