What do you care about?

I get asked this a lot. I've thought about it for a while and I just can't really come up with anything.

Thats not going to happen. Whatever life is out there will not allow us to spread the human disease.

We're it. We're the tool users and the progenitors. If one day our children look at the stars and see the empires of angles and demons it will be because we put them there.

In four billion years of life on this planet only one species ever wrote a book.
There may be other life out there, but spacefaring civilizations--no, those are truly rare.

Well the thing is, I can say I care about something but in the end I really don't. For example, I can say I care about music, bikes, and this and that. But in the end, I really don't, I could honestly careless if I didn't have those things. Every idea I come up with ends up the same way

You don't have to Care, with a capital C, about anything.

Since nobody knows why we're here in the first place, nobody knows whether a person really needs to have a cause, or a passion, in order to be a "whole" person, a "good" person, etc.

It's all a matter of how you feel and what you believe. If you're OK with not caring about Some Big Thing, then it's OK to not care about some big thing.

Me? I think the greatest gift in the universe is not getting so wound up with caring about stuff that you can't just exist like a flower in the sunlight.

That's my

You have a good point. I wouldn't say I really believe in anything though. The only reason why I brought it up was because of some conversations with my boss. Once a week we review my work and do some chit chatting. I'm a laid back person and was asked if I cared about anything. I couldn't come up with an answer. I am currently the best worker on the team so no need to bring up that up. Just trying to get some ideas I guess.

We're here to live our lives the way we see fit. Thats it, nothing more. Its the people who want to tell you how you should live your lives that makes one think about "The meaning of life."

On the outside, I would describe myself as being similar to you Fuzzy in that I feel that I don't care about anything. I often see myself as a cold and uncaring person...and maybe I am.

I do have a great concern for the welfare of my family (brother, sister and mother), I care about my neighbors that live on either side of me.
I have a passion (zeal?) of sorts for my city job and really feel that I give back to my community as I work. It is to my job that I apply the signature that I use on this forum. I have an intense concern for the employees that assist and work under my directions when I'm in the field. I ensure that nobody gets hurt while they are with me.
I would do almost anything for my inspection team and co-workers! Many co-workers seek me out because I have a way of watching out for trouble and we work in some of the grubbiest parts of West Dallas!
In all, I have to say that family, the people I work with and the people I meet while I work are who I care about. That and my relationship with God.

I do think that if humanity has a purpose, it is to spread that disease we call life. We may be the second vector that can spread life between planets and the first one we can be sure of. And we've already succeeded in taking germs to the moon and probably to Mars.

We've got plenty of friends to help. The plants are depending on us, and the cockroaches, germs and rats will be finding their own ways on board.

And you never know. By the time we meet any other life, we could be quite the alpha species.

I'm very glad that I live in such a golden age of exploration. The number of planets we have discovered via the Kepler Telescope is awe inspiring. It's like the early 1400s and Prince Henry the Navigator all over again.

Heh heh. Well, why didn't you say it was a conversation with a boss?

In that case, say that what you really really care about most is the quality of your work, and the sense of accomplishment it gives you to do a great job and do it efficiently, and function as part of the team at work, but that what you also really really care about the success of the company you work for. Then laugh, and with a twinkle in your eye, say that maybe you care too much.

Picture this - you speak to a doctor today and they tell you you have a month to live.

What do you want to do with your remaining time? Who do you want to spend it with? What do you want to be doing? What do you regret not doing to that point? What/Who will you miss most?

You can't quantify and measure caring, or love. It just is what it is (or isn't).
