Taxes are done, felling pretty, pretty, pretty smug

Started Sunday and worked for ~3hrs, finished up last night after about 3 more hours. I have mine & wifeys and two kids to do, 3 sets of Fed/State, only one 1040EZ. TurboTax'ed everything except my daughter worked out-of-state so I did that one by hand after downloading the forms and booklet (avoiding the extra state charge of $40). All printed out and lined up, I'm free!

They are her taxes, so why didn't SHE do that one by hand?

My wife's dad did her taxes well into her 20s. I was like "what the heck; I have been doing my own since my first job earning enough to have to do taxes at 17...".

Since I can transpose numbers at the drop of a hat, I use a tax preparer/accountant.

First year I used him, my ex and I were getting a divorce. Her accountant told her to file as single, mine told me to file as married, filing separately. Happily, I filed first, including her social security number. When she filed, it shot up an immediate red flag at the IRS. She had to completely redo hers, and fire her accountant. Divorce doesn't get better than that.

Now, we only have one problem. Every year, the IRS sends me a $2.12 check addressed to the both of us. We live 1,700 miles apart, so there is no way we can get together to cash it, and it requires an ID to cash it, so I can't just sign it and send it to her. I wonder how long the IRS will keep sending it.
