Anyone here have any knowledge about vitage BMX?

I tried the BMX forums but apparently no one knows a thing about vintage DiamondBacks. I have a 1980 DiamondBack Silver Streak, wondering if anyone has any info about it or if its worth keeping? Like I mentioned in the BMX forum I plan on keeping it anyways 'cause I love the vintage bikes, but I'd like to know if its junk or not.

If it is a complete survivor bike, it could be worth some decent money.

nice! I love the old under the chainstay brake placement for street...that looks like a racing frame to me, but not sure how well those held up in dirt, let alone mud. iirc some early MTBs had that as well...

You might also try posting photos in C&V. They might be able to give you more information.

Based on the pics and the brake, that is very late 80s or early 90s.

Two of my three nephews started out riding BMX back in the late '80s on Silver Streaks and I believe one of them still has his. As I remember it, they both eventually upgraded to better bikes, but it was mainly because they got sponsership after moving up in class. Their main competition was Haros I believe. The one that still has his probably has a grand worth of parts upgrades in his and it still looks trick as ****.

I agree. Actually based on the cranks and U-brake I would guess its a 1988 or later.

If I were you ilikebikes, I'd check the serial number to verify the correct year..... Have fun with it!

Yep my guess was 88-89ish. I'd prolly wanna check the rust inside the frame, tho I'm sure it'll last a good long while with no special treatment.

Yeah I'm not going to be racing it or hitting any dirt trails either!

OK, here are a few pics (they kinda suck) of the parts that have been cleaned and lubed, the crank has more work to be done, (in the way of cleaning) I also cleaned and lubes the hubs (SR hubs with Shimano freewheel, chainring is also SR) and added a set of street tires I had sitting around along with a new (used) chain. Please let me know if you guys are no longer interested and I will stop posting pics. No worries. =0)

Nice work. Looking good. I never get tired of bike pics. See if you can dig up a 1977 or so Webco with Ashtabula cranks and fork.....

I'll keep my eyes open. ;0) I built this Predator for my daughter when she was 14, shes 22 now and has it hanging from her living room ceiling. =0) Has a vintage laid back seat tube and spoked wheels now.
