MERRY CHRISTMAS to EVERYONE.

I'm posting this here because there are those that do not subscribe to the Politics & Religion Forum.

MERRY CHRISTMAS to EVERYONE! I hope & wish that everyone here in the forums has a wonderful & safe Christmas.

For those of us that are of a Christian faith please remember the real reason for the season & try not to get wrapped up in the materialistic aspect that all to often accompanies the holiday season.

For those that are not Christian, there is absolutley nothing wrong with that I respect your beliefs what ever they may be & I wish you a Merry Christmas anyway.

John

This season I posted signs in my small businesses which read "This establishment is not afraid to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas."

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all you fellow riders!

Real reason = pagans already had a holiday right at the same time, and Christians needed to incorporate existing religion's holidays in order to keep the masses happy? I'm pretty sure that Christ wasn't born on Dec 25th. The whole 'is he the son of God' thing I am still unsure on. But he probably did have a birthday....

Since you mentioned it, one of the theory's we celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25th is because the Romans had a God they called Mithras. They believed Mithras was born on Dec 25th & that he was born of a virgin. See the connection between the Christian holiday & the ancient Pagan beliefs? No one knows what Jesus's birthday was. I think the best guess so far is sometime in October, but this could be just a rumor I heard.

Now since this is starting to form into a conversation that would be best discussed in the Politics & religion Forum I'm going to stop right there. Maybe at some point in the future I'll open up a discussion on my personal theories & philosophy's on the connection between Christianity & the ancient Pagan beliefs in the appropriate forum. But not here & not now.

*Your* theories. I would have thought after more than 2000 years there couldn't possibly any newly original thought on the subject, least of all you coming up with one.
