Daughter's 16th Birthday - What to Do ?

Drawing a blank on what to do to celebrate. She's not a social butterfly, but has some friends. Athletic (soccer & lacrosse).

Got any great ideas ? Nothing formal, just fun. What have others done ?

Does she just play or does she also enjoy watching? If so try to see if there is a decent match nearby and take her and a friend or 2.

Is the one who stops looking at her and drools over the shotgun a keeper?

I'd be happy to come to the party and spend a couple of hours telling her and her friends about how things were done back when I was 16.

We didn't have no "smart" phones. You dialed O and talked to an Operator. Ain't no phone as smart as a real person like the Operator... etc.

What about a Sweet 16 party. Go '50s style. Poodle skirts and make up a playlist for the old iPod. Or start from there and let her go with it, do it goth or hipster.

It's that or buy her a car.

If I remember correctly, my daughter had friends over for a slumber party with pizza and cupcakes. And I stayed upstairs and left them alone.

One time while my ex and I were dating we spent a weekend with friends at a cabin hideaway. We had the occasion to do a bit of target practice at different distances. My ex was an Oklahoma country girl and considered herself a pretty fair shot, which she was. But it surprised her that her urban boyfriend was a better shot.

I think that kept us both safe during later arguments. We knew better than to let things get out of hand

Have her chose a friend, then take then to NYC for the day. Get play tickets from TKTS. Go for a walk on the High Line. Eat in Little Italy, or Chinatown. Go to the top of the Empire State Building, walk over to Times Square. Go to SoHo, and or the Village. Take a cruise on the Circle Line(I know it's touristy, but it is well worth it). MOMA, the MET, or Museum of Natural History. The Central Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo. Make a special trip to a place called Butter Lane Cupcakes. Have some dirty water hot dogs. Ellis island and Liberty Island. Ride the subway. Go to Federal Hall on Wall St, think about the history that took place there. Take a cruise on the Staten Island Ferry. Lots of stuff to do.

First I'd keep her away from a few FOO members that seem to have a thing for teenaged girls then I'd ask her what she wants to do for her birthday and follow her instuctions to the letter........as long as its nothing illegal or immoral! ;0) It'll be her best birthday ever!

I was going to suggest that you hire the Rolling Stones to entertain. But, at 16, she and her friends would have no idea who the Rolling Stones are.

That's so cliche but I love it!.

A mate of mine's daughter's boyfriend was invited along to one of our offshore fishing trips on my mate's boat.

Poor kid, he'd never been outside on a proper fishing boat before. We probably should have picked a calmer day and perhaps not brought pizza and beer for lunch (this was on a commercial tuna fishing boat that operates in the southern ocean, out of Port Lincoln) ... then he got real sea sick so we laughed at him all the way back to the marina as he laid on the deck in his own berley trail. At least we picked up some nice yellowfin for dinner on the trawl back in. Good times.

They'd wonder why you couldn't afford a real star, like Justin Bieber.
