I'm having a severe Meh

Lately, everything is like Meh to me. I'm like 3 months away from hitting 40... maybe that's it. Meh...

Watch some news... meh... same dumb criminals doing the same dumb things.
Movies... meh... same stories remade with new actors... meh
Games...grinding, skill points, trolling noobs... seen it, done it.. meh
Pron... seen it...same old same old... meh

I can hardly be impressed by anything these days. :\ meh

Don't be concerned, within a couple years your "meh" issue will just be another "meh." Boring. You have seen so many changes already they are beginning to blur into the same gray blah. Just like mixing a bunch of different paint colors. It always comes out the same. MEH.

My last great thrill was the old comic book heros coming to life on IMAX, plus a couple extras like Aeon Flux. Now Spiderman, Hulk, Ironman, Batman and the rest are all sequals, prequalls, or remakes. MEH.

Still there are a couple things to look forward to before my odometer stops:

I want to ride a Century. After that I want to ride several Centuries.

I want to know what it feels like to drive off a cliff in a convertable.

On your own with the convertible but I do share the century dream. Real century, metrics are for sisies. I can't train now, maybe when the kids grow up a little. I did trained before, got real close... 88 miles in one day. Came back because it got dark and I forgot lights... but I was feeling awesome... I could have done it.

The Meh attitude is perfect for long rides... I want to stop... but meh... just keep going.

This started for me around 25, though I suffer from intermittent depression and think it may be related. The one and only thing that doesn't make me meh anymore is cycling.

There is no case of depression this car couldn't cure in one way or another. Perfect 40th birthday present to yourself too. Or, more realistically, you could try a new hobby. An instrument, home improvement, art. All three of those things have cured a case of the mehs for me at some point. This may seem a bit pessimistic, but my opinion is that adult life, in large part, is meh. You just have to find the right passions to distract yourself from it.

i can easily empathize, ruben. i feel like i've done everything already...

i'm somewhat new to c&v bikes, and this sport/hobby has helped a bit with these same feelings. have you built up a classic bike from the frame up? i've found it can supply months of creative energy.

as far as film, you might explore the great directors -- kubrick, altman, huston, chaplin, wilder -- in depth. or rediscover a genre like film noir, the french new wave, or the silent era. watch all of them. old classic novels might be even better to stir some new thoughts in you. read all the bukowski, steinbeck or paul bowles? you might find something new to explore in great depth that will, in a way, make you feel new again.

and you have kids, so you have people to live for. you have young people to teach. to me, this sounds like too much. just taking a kid to the park, the ballgame, or the driving range sounds like something to wake up for...

but, i can't tell you any one thing will work ... forever. just hang in there and keep trying to find things you haven't yet conquered. they're out there.

i appreciate your thread and honesty. cheers.

Find a new hobby is what I do.

Try breaking and entering or armed robbery. That will get the old juices flowing.

Rube - look at the things you listed. Watching news. Watching movies. Playing video games. Watching Pron. They aren't really active things -- well, maybe watchign pron, but only for a shor time.

Get up, get out, find some new and active things to try. Climb a tree, climb a mountain. Get your adrenaline going and you won't feel so meh. Create something, build something, have close encounters with dangerous wild life. Find something old and broken but cool, and restore it. Seriously...the things you listed are sedentary activities. No wonder you're meh.

Smoke a cigar. That seems to get me out of a rut.

Find a place to serve others. Get involved in some sort of charity. What are your hobbies? Computers, mechanics, bikes? Find a way to use your skill set for the betterment of others.

Not trying to brag here, but I like to work on bikes. I know several others that do the same. We got involved with a group that serves single parent families and whenever they have a function, we offer to show up with our tools and repair bikes for free. I cannot begin to describe how great it makes me feel to see some little kid with a huge smile on his or her face riding off on a bike! It may not seem like much to me to replace an innertube or a frayed brake cable, but for the mom who is struggling to make ends meet and love on her kid, it means the world to get that bike fixed for their child at no cost.

Stop and think for a bit and I am sure you can find the way out of your meh. The only person that you can change in this world is you, Ruben.
