Ever think you're going to get a promotion?

And then you don't?

Nope, because getting a promotion would mean doing more of the BS work that I hate to do.

Yeah. I prefer a raise - not that that will ever come back into vogue.

No because I've never been in a position to get a promotion.

You were trying to get that "head of security" position, didn't you?

Well it was basically going to be given to me, I went and did the necessary stuff for when the person retired, but because of new systems, the job was eliminated until further notice. Rats!

Did they promise to name you Senior Executive VP in charge of Junior Executive VP's?

I interviewed with a local company once for a relatively high position (asst. controller) that would have paid a pretty nice penny. I was told I had the job, but paper work needed to be done before he could "officially offer the position". After 2 weeks of waiting, I decided to see what was up....the controller had been fired so I didn't get the job

Yeah raises used to be nice. Heck even cost of living raises used to be nice. These days if I want more money, I need a new job.

Exactly, they took our raise last quarter and are giving us 1% this time. Whoop de doo!

What is this talk of 'getting a raise'? My previous non-contract job I actually took a $2/hr cut in an attempt to keep working there (love how that worked out ), then my one and only contract assignment since was for $4.50/hr below that.

But I digress. Yeah, I was bucking for promotion when I was younger and wholly ignorant. True, I had just finished HS, started CC, and was working at Arby's... well, some people consider fast food management a promotion.

Until I get my license, there's no such thing as a promotion.

Happened to me once. I was a supervisor. Some peeps got fired so I became super-duper supervisor in the interim. They extreme-supervisors told me I was the best person to have ever filled the job and they loved me. Then they hired a new permanent super-duper supervisor and I was returned to a position below the position I had before I filled in!!!

The uber-supervisors realized you had mad skillz. They feared you would take their positions and so turned you back into a drone and insulated themselves from you by bringing in another.

Licensed Architect. I'm not allowed to claim any title other than Architect Intern or Intern Architect prior to getting the license.

I'm a lab monkey. Next year I'll be an assistant professor, but I think I'll still keep the title lab monkey.

I've been waiting for an updated job description that would come with a change in classification and a bump in $$$ for over a year now. So is one of our coders.
My boss' boss is sitting on his arse and not approving it. He's a Navy man and I don't think he likes that I am an Air Force brat who used to work for the Air Force.
