I always wanted to do this project... lack of funding and equipment got in the way... meh, google did it. I can't be first now:

Well... nobody "program it" to recognize a cat. They just activated an algorithm to learn from the input fed, and fed it with youtube. Surely, if they feed the machine with alternative video sources it might learn to recognize other feline forms like "cougars"... maybe even "blonde cougars" with <insert your preferences here>.

Yeah, Google is the creepiest company on the planet. Self-teaching facial recognition software. And cats with their fur patterns aren't the easiest subject. They show it off with an application that distracts people from it's real ability by using cats instead of people. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

I can't believe that you didn't have 1,000 16CPU computers at your disposal to try to do this yourself.
