Another pet peeve...

I was in Los Angeles this morning and on the way back to the office decided to stop off and get lunch at Del Taco. This restaurant is right near Angels Stadium and apparently there is a game this afternoon. Every weird ****** in his red shirt and cap is running around. I am sitting in my car trying to choke down a burrito and listening to the news... about 20 cars have come in, park, and then pulled out again. As the occupants exit the car to the restaurant, they use their electronic key to set the lock. Now I do the same thing but when did it become OK for the =HONK= to occur? Is that the most annoying thing or what? It's like "yes I am the only one in the world and I don't care if my car honking bothers you as its all about me". When I use my key lock, some lights falsh, that's it. I would never think of bothering others by allowing the car to honk. How rude!

and yes..."git off my lawn!"

Relax. Are you assuming people are doing this to annoy you or to be rude? I doubt they are thinking about you at all. If I use the key fob to lock my door, my car honks automatically, there is no way around it. It's annoying, but I can't change it. I would imagine a lot of other cars are the same.

I'm sure the others don't feel "rude" for "allowing" their cars to honk when they don't have any control over the matter if they wish to lock their doors.

Ever stop to think that it is not a setting that the user can change. My old Saturn honked when it locked. Came that way from the dealer and never had the option to change it. Frankly, I miss the little honk...I always knew when my car locked.

Yeah, especially in broad daylight...suck it up. That said, I programmed my parent's Jeep to not honk. it isn't hard.

I've had some that you couldn't change the factory defaults and others that could be customized.

But we kinda like the little honk. If we forget where we parked, we can use echo location to find it without using the full blown panic button.

Actually that is my point, they weren't thinking of me or anyone else. And if you use your fob and the car honks...neither do you. If all alone and no one around - hey fine. And I do believe it can be changed. My honks too on another setting... I choose not to use it

Ever think of just locking the car with your hand before getting out? I do that all the time... I hate to intrude on the space of others...

oh well modern society... it's all about me, f the other guy...

My son likes to play with the fob for my truck just to make the horn honk. He thinks it's funny...I do too now.

I think you may have misinterpretated what I meant. F the other guy? Seriously? Do you really thing other people locking their doors are are thinking in their heads "let me see how I can annoy that woman over there eating her taco?" Most people do not lock the doors with their hands because to do so does not activate the alarm system on their car, and using the key fob does. Do you expect a public place to be silent?

I only did it because my Mom works shift work and gets home at weird hours. The honk came in handy in the rental car in Las Vegas.

Hey in a way I agree with Pam... there is enough noise in the world... do we really need our cars to tell us they are locked with a loud noise... just lock the door before you close it and be done with it. And close it quietly please.

I also think it is an abomination that folks want otherwise quiet electric cars to make noise... frankly I want all cars to be quieter... especially those that belong to the rude idiots that change out stock mufflers for more noisy exhaust systems.

Hey my bike makes nearly no noise what so ever... can't others try to achieve the same goal with their transportation?

Too many folks with honk when locked key fobs and car alarms... everybody appeared "horny."

Hard to hide in a swimsuit and take with you into the ocean too. And they don't just fit into a pocket well either.

Nope it is bad to lock it with your hand, that is how you lock your keys in the car.
My truck honks when I lock it. It has never crossed my mind that the split second it "honks" would even bother someone. I find it odd that we live in a society where something so simple would actually get on someones nerves.

odd.

I used to have a race car that I took to the track early Saturday and Sunday mornings. It did not have mufflers at all. I had to load it up on teh trailer at about 5am and the trailer tilted so you have to give it a little gas to make the incline BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAP BLAAAAAAAAAP BLUP BLUP BLUP BLUP.
