No texting pledge

AT&T is asking drivers to take a no texting pledge, story here complete with a few 'last text' examples. It's not much to remember a person by.

AT&T texting pledge

I have a super cheap cell phone plan that doesn't let me text. Never could see the use for typing with my thumbs.

Language takes up enough of a person's brain anyway. I had a job for years where I noticed that every time I made a mistake, it was because I was talking.

Last time I was in the back seat of a police car, the cop driving was texting while driving on the freeway.

Cops are above the law, didn't you know that?

I've long refused to text or make/take phone calls in the car. Everyone I know who talks on the phone while driving still drifts all over the place, especially while dialing, answering, or hanging up. Not to mention the lack of attention, since the person on the other end of the line MUST take precedence over the road!

Nah. I prefer to drive when I drive.

I won't be taking any pledges. they too often seem like another marketing ploy, any way. And many of the people who take them ignore them, or have already made their decision to do or not do whatever they're pledging to.

I don't know if I have texting. Never sent a text message from a phone, ever.

Now with a keyboard in front of me I go back to the early 70s.

I have always said that if I die on a bicycle, it will be because of some yahoo in a Ford F-350 who will be texting, drift over two feet to the right, and never even feel the bump when I am run over.

They're not above the laws of physics.

I can't wait until someone develops a means of real time wireless voice communication. Then, we won't need to try to type on those tiny little keyboards, anymore.

I have too. When cell phones first came out people had another reason to think I was strange because I didn't want to talk and drive at the same time if driving required more than a minimal amount of concentration.

While I agree with you (sarcasm understood) on some levels, often a text message is all it takes to convey the information. There's no reason for me to wait for connection times, hope the person at the other end is available to talk, go through the usual "hello." "Hi. How are you?" formalities just to ask a simple question.

That said, I usually prefer face-to-face communication, and using short text bursts can be used to coordinate this.

Just not while driving ... for either use of the phone.

Or you could leave a voice message or voicemail.
