This was TGC's first official gig as a group. We had barely rehearsed this cover song, I dropped one short line of lyrics @ one point, Steve missed a few chord change timing bits, but overall, I think it sounded ok Saturday. Great number, Sammy Kershaw's classic 'Third Rate Romance'.

Still gigging. Two gigs this weekend. It's fun. Getting more and more local traction around here.

i bought a couple of Chinese guitars in the last year or so from a company called Eastman. $700 for the 12 string, $1050 for the dreadnaught, they compare to $2500-$3000 American guitars. The dreadnaught (D20) actually kind of blew away the $2500 Martin D28s they had in the store at the same time.

Between practicing, rehearsing and gigging, I figure I wound up playing the guitar something like 11-12 hours between Friday/Saturday/ Sunday, half of that in front audiences @ gigs. Something clicked with the guitar playing this weekend and I found myself more relaxed, confident, hitting the licks I was missing before, finally really hearing the sound I have in my head coming out of the PA much of the time. Guitar playing can get frustrating, but I know when you keep your head down and stick with it you can get there. What motivates me is the playing with other people like my bandmates in The Great Compromise , in a way that never happened when I played in the basement alone. The most valuable lesson I've learned is that the crashing and burning is part of the process, and oddly, the screwing up live and overcoming that and the nerves; that's what makes you start getting better. Should have learned this in my 20s when I stared playing. Better late than never. I've been playing the guitar erratically for a long time, getting somewhere with it this late feels like a second chance. Very gratifying. Singing comes easy to me, the guitar playing not so much, I feel like I grind out every yard I gain.
