Pcad's Official Foo Guitar Thread

Here are mine as of today.

L to R: 2000 Fender Custom Shop Strat, 2011 Gibson LP R8 ,2011 PRS SC-58, 2011 Gibson LP R0, 2011 Gibson Standard Plus, 2011 PRS Modern Eagle Qattro, 2011 Taylor 814ce.

7 guitars. Compared to some of these maniacs, that's nothing. There's really only one more I'd like to get, and in the end I may wind up selling one of these. I don't really want more than this. A 12 string might be nice some day too, but I've gotten away without one for 30 years, so it's not at the top of the Pcad gotta have list.

I hate Teles, Gretches, mini-humbuckers and just about everything else. What you see is what I like. I've been doing this long enough to know that.

There are things about every guitar I don't like, but my refusal to use pedals necessitates a 'one for each sound' sort of set up.

Quite a bit lately. If I stop playing this much, I'd sell most of these, I've gone from 10 guitars to 2 before. I'm into it these days. But the nice thing about high end guitars is that if you buy them right you get 90% of your money back. I mostly buy them right.

You think? LP guys are like me, they like singlecut guitars. Singlecuts are always ballsier than doublecuts. That PRS MEQ (the gray doublecut) kicks ass however.

Hell, if we can actually get this little band thing off the ground, I'd play a lot more and I'd get a lot better. That is the plan. Rehearsal again tonight.

Nothing wrong with having numbers. Unless I'm missing some (very possible) my count right now indicates I have 22 instruments.

If we add those, nose harps, jaw harp, etc. we break well above 30. I was referring specifically to strings.

Speaking of P90 guitars, I was playing that cheap Agile (pictured above). The guitar screams. I A-B'd that $500 guitar with a $3000 Gibson Historic Les Paul with P90's and I really preferred the cheap Agile. Those are really amazing guitars for the money, they make a wide range of guitars from LP style to Fender style, they range from $150-$1000, most of their good guitars are $500 or less.

I've probably posted this here before, but here's my guitar collection:

...though since I'm actually a bassist, this is the collection that gets the most use:

I bought it for $2650 slightly used. I'm confident that if I listed it on eBay with a $1 opening bid and no reserve it would get bid up into the $3K range. The dealers get $4K+ for them new. I'd like to buy one with a tremelo bridge, but they are awful pricey brand new. Best guitar I've ever owned in many respects. Killer tone, ergonomics, looks. AMAZING player, great for lead guitar.

I'm more in line with Pcad here; I went through a lot of tone-hunting and once I found what worked for me, I bought a bunch of very similar things. For me it was the mahogany wood and a glued-in neck that counted most in my final decision, along with various neck preferences. I played Teles for years but I wouldn't want one now.

Having said all that, I too have 8 now and that's 7-8 more than I need at the moment...too busy to play, although as fall sets in and I'm off the bike more that may change. Last year I was injured and off the bike for months, so I was playing every day for the first time in ages. That was fun. But if I could sell them without taking a bath I would in a heartbeat.

Those PRS Modern Eagle guitars are really killer, but they are super pricey. Musicians Friend sells them for $4700. Ouch. You can get them new for low 4's, but man that's a lotta dough for a guitar, even these days. Glad I found mine for that price, had I not grabbed it (I knew it was a great deal) I'd never have had one. The guitar struck me in the store as having killer everything, now that i've played it for six months I love it even more. It's really kind of like a Private Stock PRS, and those guitars are hard to find for less than $6k-$8k. Nicest PRS I've owned. My SC-58 is another killer, bought that used for the right price too.

And I thought I was greedy for going over budget and owning one low-end Seagull acoustic.

But, I have been making cigar box guitars and those are starting to pile up on top of my piano until I sell some of them...
