    Group Darwin Award ?

Is it possible to nominate more then one person the Darwin Award for 2012 ?

    How about 41 or so.

    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/08/...n-long-island/

    CBS News:

Having a barbecue on a sandbar off Shinnecock Inlet on Long Island didn’t appear to be dangerous, that is until the tide came in. Southampton police, assisted by dozens of other public safety organizations, rescued all of the stranded people.

Several, who attempted to swim to safety on their own were saved by private boaters. they were later charged with swimming in a prohibited area. One person was hospitalized as a precaution. The incident has authorities advising barbecuers to be sure to hold your functions on dry ground.

The add'l were details were, as reported in the local rag - Newsday:

    1) Three swimmers was found swimming inside the Shinnieock Inlet. Another was swept out of the inlet and was found by the Coast Guard 200 yards off-shore.

    2) It was 8:40PM, so night around here this time of year.

    3) The sandbar is underwater at high tide.

    4) They were dropped off by "a boat". That left. Not 2 boats of 3, but 1. For 41 people, 4 in the water plus the 37 rescued on the disappearing sandbar.

My guess, they were all under that age of 25.

The report said it was a keg party BBQ and they were all in their 20's.

Unfortunately I think they only qualify for Darwin Honorable Mention, since they are all still alive to procreate.

People are so dumb when it comes to water. My cousins have a place up near Holland Michigan overlooking Lake Mich, and I have seen many people have to be towed back when the swells are big. One of those cousins, who should know better, was part of a group of kids that rented a party pontoon for the Chicago River and idiotically took it out on the big lake.... They had to be towed in.

Yep! The Darwin Award is given to people who improve the gene pool by taking themselves out of it in a permanent fashion.

I've heard of stories where people were getting washed away while BBQ'ing on the piers when a hurricane was moving in.
Food for thought: if you aren't dead by 2050, you and your entire family will be within a few years from starvation. Now that is a cruel gift to leave for your offspring. ;)

I read in the paper a 43 year old woman in Loveland Colorado tried crossing Lake Loveland as a shortcut. the water is very low but she learned the difference between low and dry when she became stuck in chest deep mud. rescue had to be called out to help her. wouldn't you think when you were in ankle deep mud it would be wise to turn around? how about knee deep? no a little further? okay.

The reason we have so many stupid teens doing stupid things is because their parents did everything for them since birth . They never got a chance to fail and learn from it . Dumb parents produce dumb kids .

In addition to that, parents practically aren't allowed to discipline their kids anymore, which has made them spoiled little brats... Which in turn makes them not value their or others' lives. I'm only 23, but I wasn't allowed to have a cell phone until I could afford to pay for it myself, I was forced to get a job when I turned 13, and sure, if I did something wrong when I was younger I got a deserved spanking. The younger part of my generation is doomed. /end rant.

Hey, they could have chosen the shores of the Bay of Fundy at low tide......
