Going to the DMV today

The boy is taking his driving test. He turned 16 in April, but he wanted to drive under supervision for awhile longer. He didn't think he was ready.

Invest in his future, buy him driving lessons, that way he'll learn the proper way and not pick up too many of your bad habits.

Get a motorcycle for him. Then he'll discover what defensive driving is all about. And he'll learn to watch for, and respect, two-wheeled vehicles.

Smart kid. I assume he's been taking driver's ed in school too? Hope it's not too crowded, up here they can be a nightmare. I'm going tomorrow because I lost my notice to renew my registration, not looking forward to it.

Man, times have changed. When I was a kid, I started driving and parking trailers when I was 12...on actual city roads; none of this "I drove a tractor when I was 9!" stuff.

Took my permit test on my 15th b-day and passed 100%. Took my driving test on my 16th b-day and passed the first time with 100%.

These days, my students don't get their license until they are 19, 20 years old, and most of them may have touched a steering wheel when they were 15 or 16, but they had only actually driven a total of less than a handful of times between 15-19.

Not that there is anything wrong with this: I mean, how lovely would it be if people just decided to not really drive that much at all, use transit and bicycles, and just rented cars when needed instead of owning their own?

Guess the only hobby you can afford in the future will be a fun game of Amish horseshoes on the weekends.

A "new order"Amish 2 door buggy with a slump bag nag should only be @200 a year for liability for the whole family.

*Avoid those "Englander" combustion $$$$ engines

You know the number tag you get at the bakery counter?
Just multiply that wait by a thousand only to be helped by someone who is grammar impaired.

This is a really good idea: http://streetsurvival.org/
If you're a BMW car club member, I think many of the chapters do a similar program for about $30 (sometimes called a "car control clinic"). If that's not an option, try the library for Secrets of Solo Racing by Henry Watts. It's a short, easy to read book (also cheap) that will explain the concepts of traction, understeer, oversteer, and how to deal with both.

That's an odd question. Are you trying to be mean to Couchie's roots here? Was it the spreadsheet comment the other day?
