Tried to Tip a WallyWorldWorker

I took on of my watches in for a new battery and a band. Gal did a good job, took her time and was very careful. I liked her work so I gave her $5 as a tip. She said they couldn't accept tips and that she would get in trouble. I walked away smiling but she followed us and insisted that I take it back.

Kind of sad, she did a much better job than 90% of the bike shop workers I've encoutnered.

Yup that is pretty standard. I had a friend that worked at a large grocery store chain get written up for accepting a tip once.

I always tip people discreetly with a folded bill in a handshake. No need to cause any trouble if someone else may get upset by seeing that.

Did you tell the manager what a good job she did? Or an email to HQ?

You should have sped up and not allowed her to pass you. Once she did pass you, should have sucked up behind her for the next few miles.

it seems to me that some WalMart employees, you could just tip and they'd fall right over.

Hopefully she won't have problems because of this.

I think one of the reasons for a policy like this is because if employees can get tips some bright boy in government will decide they did get tips and have to account for them.

I do think the thing already mentioned is worth doing. Tell her supervisor she did a good job and that because of it you are more apt to select their store in the future. Leave out the tip part.

Beanz, I know you mean well, you have a kind heart but I hope you took it back. She can get fired for that and if you look around, everything is on camera. The biggest thing that you can do for her is to recommend her to a place that will hire her with better wages and more respect for the employee.

I like walmart for batteries because most other cheap places will refuse to put it in for you if you didn't buy your watch there (mine was a gift and apparently bought somewhere in Switzerland), and the jewelry and watch shops charge incredibly high prices for the service (really, you're going to charge me $20-25 to put a freaking $2 batter in?)
