Do I need to change my signature?

I've had the same signature quote for about a year (if memory serves). In that time, I've gotten 0 negative comments on it. Until today.

I mentioned to someone (who didn't have a paid membership and wasn't in a for sale thread) that, while he could ask the value of his bicycle, he couldn't try to sell it where he was without paying (he was trying to do both).

Someone else posted back that before I try correcting someone else I should read the rules because my signature violates something about family friendliness, and I went "huh", because it didn't even occur to me that my signature wouldn't be family friendly enough. Don't know whether I'm out of touch or if it's due to my family's background in farming (more than one holiday dinner involved an uncle talking about being armpit deep in a cow artificially inseminating her growing up), but that never crossed my mind.

So is my signature offensive, and does it need to be removed?

For what it's worth, in case you have signatures hidden or I do change it, it currently reads as follows:

Punctuation is important. It's the difference between "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse" and "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse"

It is a joke that every school boy across America has heard, or told I would imagine, so I would not find it too offensive, esp. since young kids should not be reading forums anway. No more offensive than almost every thread in Foo.

It's only offensive if you can't grasp punctuation.
Edit: I am a farm boy born and raised, and a farmer now soooooo my views may be biased as yours.

Just to be clear, I wasn't actually raised on a farm myself, but my mom was, many of my relatives are farmers and we spent most holidays (and many other times) at my grandparents' farm growing up. Didn't want to be claiming to be something I'm not.

I'm usually more offended by those who censor others.

You do have an Uncle Jack I assume.

Well no, the closest is Rick actually (his father was Dick, and his son is Rich, so I'm waiting for Rich to have a son so we can see the next variation of Richard), but I couldn't think of a punctuation wordplay with Dick in it quite as easily. That and grammar jokes about getting Jack off the horse are a lot more likely to pass the family friendly test than jokes involving Dick (and my grandpa is dead, so there is that).

Seriously though, my wife used to call me the Comma King back when we were in grad school and editing each other's papers because I'd add them right and left to hers, and she'd cross out lots of commas in mine. That, and I believe strongly in the value of the Oxford comma. If you ever read Lynne Truss' Eats, Shoots & Leaves, my main problem with her ideas is that she doesn't feel it has any use in today's language.

But have you ever slept with the Oxford comma? I think that would fix that infatuation, if I'm any judge of people.
