NYC has it's own very special Traffic Court. They have judges that LOVE to have folks contest a ticket. They then get to throw the book at them when it comes to trial. They will postpone the first time, then collect all those poor souls having violations for one particular officer. Then the cop shows up and everybody in that courtroom that day gets to testify against the cop as to why their violation wasn't justified/legal/fair or whatever. Then the judge finds you guilty and can assess a higher fine and punishment then what is called for by the rule book.
Sometimes you can hire a lawyer and they can help, but rarely. They do NOT plea bargain, as BTW. It's either guilty or not.
Usually cheaper and certainly less time consuming to pay the ticket and then slow down.
