I was on my way to work early this morning for an all-day conference, cruising a shady street a whole block and a half from work, with the low autumn sun not all the way past the trees yet at 7:30.
The little bugger leapt off of the curb right in front of me. I know better than to dodge squirrels as that's a surefire way for the human to lose. But instead of the squirrel running away as usually happens, there was a *thumpthump* as my 700x32 Nashbar Gridlock tires got him right in the middle. I looked back and there he was in the middle of the bike lane, tail still twitching. I went a little further, but my curiosity got the better of me, so I turned around and rode back to him. Somehow, he had made it a step or two out of the bike lane and into the road. But he was really dead now.
Oh well, no shortage of squirrels on campus!
Time of death: 18 Oct 2012, approximately 07:40
Location: right about here
When I passed that way again on the way home a little after 17:30, he was gone, so I guess Grounds cleaned him up... or a starving student cooked and ate him.
