What are the particles in my water?

So sometimes at night I fill up at the bathroom tap out of laziness... When you look at the water in the right light/ from the right angle, you can see some floaties. It's not well water or "hard" water. It kind of looks like how tiny little stubble hairs look in water... So am I safe?

It could be algae that grows inside pipes and tiny particles come off with the flow of water? there's nothing you can do about that without replacing every pipe back to the reservoir it comes from.
I live in a rural area and the water tastes fowl, it's clean to look at just tastes bad, in the school at the nearest town kids use to drink it from fountains around the school but there not allowed now because they were getting lumpy growths in there throat.
I only drink filtered rain water.

Reminds me of university days. Wake up, spill some instant coffee in a cup, put it under the hot water tap, light a cigarette, and breakfast is made

put some in a clear plastic bottle and then shake.. do the "particles" disappear? in San Jose we have cloudy tap water but it's just tiny air bubbles

They lift the lid up on a clam shell.

SpongeBob lives under the sea and says so.

If you put it in a clear water bottle (or glass, but then cover it) and let it sit overnight, does the stuff settle to the bottom? Grow legs and crawl out? Did you try flushing sea monkeys recently?

They do seem to disappear overnight, but nothing noticeable at the bottom. I don't think it's just bubbles though. Oh well, I'm not sick and I drink a pretty decent amount of the stuff. Tastes pretty good too.

Usually the fish poop/mercury from the Chicago river will settle to the bottom of your glass.
"bottoms up dude"!
