Lemme see... no-one lost a dog, a truck or a girlfriend so it can't be a country song.

The heros aren't driving a pick up truck and aren't wearing John Deere caps... not a tractor in sight either.

It's twangy enough to qualify as country for me.

No that's vintage country. Now you're also allowed to sing entire songs just bragging about how redneck you are.

I was drunk the day that ma got out of prison,
So I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the depot in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned ol' train.

I will let you kiss David Alan Coe's ass. It is his song, written by Steve Goodman.

It's WAY more country than the #1 song on the Billboard Country chart right now.

No way I'd call it a country song, though. Carpetbagger imitation of southern rock, maybe.

Uh yeah, I know. The ass kissing line is from one of DACs other semipopular songs.

That song came on the jukebox once @ a bar with a "diverse" clientele. I'd never been to this bar but I was half expecting some kinda fight to break out once he got to the N-word part.

    Nobody really noticed, though.

More recent recordings use the word "slave" there. A buddy was playing Kinky Friedman's "They Ain't Making Jews" at work once and forgot that the song contains the word in question and that some people might not realize it was satire. He was 10 or 20 feet from his work area as the line approached, and nearly killed himself racing back to mute the song. Hilarious.

Nowadays "Country" is just pop with a bad accent. In terms of real country, no it's not. Given the current state of the genre, sure, why not?
