Where are all the goodies!?!?!?!

10 years ago my office was filed with fruit and cheese baskets, See's Candie, assorted nuts, popcorn tins, all sorts of goodies sent to us by vendors. Usually the two weeks up until Christmas I would be sick from eating all the junk that was sent.

Now that is not a problem. Not one lousy box of candy; nothing. On top of that so far only 2 Christmas cards. I got some via email but those suck.

I am alittle depressed. Christmas is not what it used to be... guess I will be going to the mall this weekend (GASP) to buy a box of See's so my staff gets something... geez Bah Humbug!

adding another rant on top... I used to love to walk around and see Christmas lights... now its one blow up WalMart crappy prop after another. Misses the whole point of the lights reflecting the stars and twinkle of Christmas... now its faded plastic and generators blasting... =sigh=

These days companies are implementing way more stringent Ethic rules, including mandatory training for all employees. We have very strict guidelines what we're allowed to receive and give. You could be seeing those affects across North America.

I think due to budget cuts, goodies are now reserved to woo potential new clients and not treat existing ones. As far as your lights, there is a local bible college that puts on a pretty good display. This video was professionally done for the 2010 display; while that means the picture quality is great, they tend to focus on the same elements over and over again.

Plus eleventy for this. As part of our healthcare corporate compliance rules, anything that could be construed as a bribe, kickback or inducement to do business has been cut way back. I actually tell our vendors to do not anything, since the compliance requirements, monitoring and paperwork make it way more trouble than it is worth.

In the early 90's, we were offered tons of booze from our suppliers. Those days are long gone ... and yes, the copier was always essential during the x-mas party

Reminds of the time I worked for Wally World as a clerk. They had strict policies on accepting 'gifts' of any kind from any vendor- to do so ran the risk of termination.

We get a lot of gifts from vendors. They just raffle them off a week before Christmas. Same with tickets for games.

Here's another big display that is only a few miles from my home. The family actually likes this one more than the other one.

We are not suppose to accept personal gifts (or gifts of some value - candy and nuts are OK)... anything that comes into the office must be shared... that is fine and good... nothing comes in. I mean from our vendors; people who should be wooing us or at least remembering the relationship throughout the year. One lousy box of See's candy ain't going to break any one's bank... =sigh= I know Christmas just ain't what it was...

You hosers get first pick on Christmas.Santas first stop because you are very close to the North Pole, good snow for a sleigh landing, plenty of good beer by the fireplace,eh.
Tons of booze and good beer is a dangerous mix up there so Hudson Bay Trading Co.is sticking to beer only.

There are a lot more houses with lights this year, we think it must be due to the warmer weather.
