Facebook (mini) Rant

Facebook is full of lies and misinformation. Stuff lots of people take seriously, think about, think they are right about. So much false information flowing around it's hard to tell what is true and what isnt. Some days I'm just discusted with the cesspool that facebook has turned/is turning into. If it wasn't for being able to stay in touch with people and share photos with friends, I'd probably delete my account.

There are plenty of ways to share photos other than FB. I only keep a FB account for the occasional business related need. The world is stuck with FB for the long haul, regardless of how unethical they are.

Now go ride your bike

Sounds like a plan but no, I dont have suficent lighting/reflectors for night riding, that and Ive rod so much lately that my knees are getting sore, so I need to let that stop being sore for abit Also I have to go to bed soon. Not sure how good it is to workout right before bed, though working out does help alievate frustration.

Anyone who posts too much of that stuff, I just change their Friend settings so their crap doesn't show up in my feed. Same thing with game requests. No biggie.

That's a really good idea! Why didn't I think of that? Come to think of it, maybe I SHOULD start riding at night after work. I wonder if that would help get rid of frustrations for the day. I dont know if id be able to sleep though. I get home from work at about 11:30 PM

The things that irritate me about facebook are the fake relationships and attention whoring. Also the fact that it seems to belittle real problems, partially by making people feel like they're doing something just by "sharing" or "liking" a photo. And also the fact that it seems to be making a lot of people socially inept. I have a couple hundred friends on facebook... But there are really probably only 15 or so good friends that I keep the "show in my news feed" option checked for.

How stupid! One of the ads shows a picture of a kid with a unilateral cleff lip on the left side. It says one click of the mouse can save his life. From What? A Cleft lip is a birth defect, and is not life threatening.

Adblock Add-in on Chrome or Firefox blocks all those ads.

I love Adblock. If you've got a relatively low-memory computer like I do, it can save a ton of memory on certain sites too.

I have FB marked private, limited to just friends. However, created a (photography) business page that obviously wanted open...which it is. Problem is - like only, on business page, no friends (which would be a good sales tool), but the biggest problem is if I like other business sites and they like me, their future post start showing up on on my personal page wall and not my business page. Need to set up another business page (real estate) and thinking of creating it as a freestanding "personal" account. I currently have 2 personal accounts, one dedicated to a hobby, and discovered if signing on in different browsers (ie, firfox, chrome, safari) they would remember it on the same computer.

Oh, one other thing I discovered now that FB has gone public with the investment analyst earnings pressure - when you post to your wall, it doesen't got to 100% of your friends, nor do you receive 100% of what friends post. The reason is...FB wants you to buy ads to push content and the least expensive selection is "friends." I have never bought any ads.

Weird, I don't have any of the issues most people complain about, well, except my one aunt to posts urban legends that no one reacts to, and a college friend who posts about her business constantly, again, that no one reacts to.

But I only have 102 friends, and I know them all in person, so, ya...and I blocked my wife's cousin who posts pictures of herself dancing on party buses every weekend after telling her that maybe she should be more creative with her skirt length and underwear choices after a while. I will never know if she took my advice.

I only post pictures and videos of the kids because the old folk request it, and it's kinda fun in that regard. But that is it.

I don't expect it to last much longer. I used to get 100s of items to keep up with each day, but now maybe there are six for me to read. And even my students old enough to have accounts have all deleted theirs by now--their parents sign up in droves, though.

I got fed up with the FB BS, too -- down to 16 friends, maybe about the same number of Pages Liked...quality rather than quantity.

There are a few people I can't keep up with any other way, so I keep the account. If not for them, FB would B his-to-ree.....

I mute people who post too many game requests, the farmville people etc. And I hate the chain letter type things, the ones who tell you to click on the picture to save someone's life, a lot of those are black hat marketing.
I mainly use it to keep up with friends who live away but I need to do another cull soon, and get rid of all the people who didn't speak to me in high school but who suddenly want me to be their best friends...

Facebook is just one of many stupid annoying things we have in our lives. What about all the advertising that artificially inflates demand for goods we don't need? Compared to advertising FB is harmless. What about the porn that is accessible to everyone who has a mobile phone!
