Well, now you can just go to a store and buy something smaller than your thumbnail that can store 64gb, is re-writeable, and has no moving parts. It can withstand physical shocks and reasonable temperature variations, has very high access speeds, and will last for years before it breaks. As long as we're talking digital, I can't bring myself to lament the passing of a read-only 700mb coaster. Your data will always be stored in a physical medium somewhere.

I read that last year digital downloads surpassed sales of physical media for music. I think we'll need a lot more bandwidth infrastructure before downloading in Blu-Ray quality will become commonplace for video.

The selection, available sales space, and variety of digital media at Walmart has a LOT of disparity -- CD's, DVD's, Blu-Rays have an exponential multitude more space than mp3's/etc. (And it's NOT due to the size difference!) If the world's largest retailer is still investing in 'physical media', then it's not going anywhere soon.

I have a Roku, but I will not stop buying DVDs (blu-rays now these days). I don't want to worry about internet cutting out, or buffering issues, or prime-time usage slows, etc. DVDs are also transportable if I want to bring a movie to a friends.
I'll always be someone who likes to have physical copies of things.
Same reason I still buy and love to collect books - I don't own an e-reader. Nor will I.
