I declare shenanigans!

Man loses life savings on carnival game

"A New Hampshire man who thought he had a decent ball toss says he lost his life savings—or about $2,600—playing a carnival game he claims was rigged.

Henry Gribbohm told WBZ-TV that he was attempting to win an Xbox Kinect at the Manchester carnival when things went awry.

The 30-year-old from Epsom, N.H., was playing a game called Tubs of Fun in which contestants toss balls into a tub, but the balls kept popping out."

From the looks and sounds of him on the news, I have no problem believing that he did this. Stupidity should carry a penalty.

I was pretty sure I could win it and I really wanted me some of that hot video game action.

Best Buy lists one of these for $300 on their website, he could have bought a bunch of them for $2,600.

It boggles my mind that some people don't seem to realize that carnival games/casinos/etc are all explicitly designed to make you lose money. I once had a very long conversation with someone about a sign in front of a Tahoe casino that proclaimed something like 'Average 97% payback!". When I tried to explain that it means that the casino is telling you RIGHT OUT FRONT that you're going to lose money, they kept insisting that it actually meant you'll almost double your cash...

I figured that, but then I had a sad thought. Bet you someone gives him his money back and buys him the toy, just because he got publicity. Lesson learned--not!

Exactly...let's reward the idiots...it's like giving the dog a treat for crapping on the floor.

Remember the movie "Lost in America"? A yuppie couple sells everything, buys a mobile home and starts to travel. Their first stop is Las Vegas, and she looses their "nest egg" at the casino while he sleeps. The next morning they try to convince the casino boss to give them back the money that she lost, and he basically tells them that if they're gullible enough to loose their money to the casino the casino is going to keep it.

What astonished me is that after losing his first $300, the value of the prize, he went home and got a lot more money and came back. Even that cooling off period didn't bring him to his senses.

I hope he didn't get a payday loan to afford that. He's going to have some 'splaining to do to his wife.

It was Opie, at the shootin' gallery. Andy told the carnie to give Opie the straight gun next time instead of the crooked one. Opie was a good shot, so he got the prize.

Ironically, the prize was a razor:

Man loses $2600 on carnival game, given banana with dreadlocks as consolation prize

My favourite quote: "They lied to me"

http://www.wmur.com/news/nh-news/man...mur%2Bfacebook

MANCHESTER, N.H. —An Epsom man said he was taken for a ride at a carnival over the weekend.
Henry Gribbohm Jr. said on Saturday evening, he got caught up in a carnival game called Tubs of Fun set up outside the JFK Coliseum in Manchester. Before he knew it, he had handed over $300.

If ya'll send me money, I will comment on your posts in Foo and keep them at the top. No promises of a ganja banana or an Xbox. I will catch you a delicious bass though and get you a discount on a corn dog.
