I disagree, the only problem with photo 2 is the blown out sky, and the framing in photo two increases the sense of dynamism.

too much dead space above riders in #2 and the butt end of the rider exiting is just distracting.

I disagree, the butt gives you a better feeling of being there.

I like the crop in the first one better. Like the lighting in the second one better, even if the sky is partly blown out.

    Just my 2 cents.

Both have blown out highlights. The first also, due to post processing, happens to have muddied shadows and the blown out highlights disguised with the grey color.

Lighting and color in the second one is way better.

The processing on the top one looks a little fake, but it accentuates the front-most rider nicely, knocks out those annoying trees, and has better composition. Maybe the same crop but a more subtle color alteration?

Top pic says to me: bike racers.
Bottom pic says: bike racers poorly framed.

Second, no contest. All you have to do is tighten it up like the first pic (less sky, get #513s ass out of the pic) and you've got yourself a winner.

the colors and clarity in the 2nd one are much better. if you crop the guy's butt out of the first one you'll have a nice crisp picture.

I'm guessing the bottom one is the original. The top one has lost it's sharpness and true to life color, so I like the bottom one.

If you take out the butt in the second pic and just a LITTLE bit of the sky, I say that's the one for me. It makes me feel like I'm right there in the action. Just don't take out too much sky because frankly, that's whats up there in reality, right?

A picture does not exist in a vacuum.

For highlighting the single rider the top one is far better.

For an article about a huge ride with hundreds or even thousands of riders the bottom is far better. And for that the butt just exiting the frame is actually a good thing.

Otherwise the butt tips it to the top picture.

The top pic is better if you are the rider in the center. It looks like a photoshopped selfie. The blue filter on everything else is depressing and distracting.

Overall, I like the second picture better, though a lot of the sky could be trimmed to emphasize the peleton spreading out horizontally along the street. It could use a little levels adjustment.

    Neither picture is a standout.
