everything is coming up turtles

I need recipes people! Fishing today I wound up catching turtles instead of fish (I was actually after catfish). Now turtle meat is totally totally awesomly good. I need to let the Turtles clean out in a holding tank for 7 days off before I slaughter them and clean them. That gives us time to come up with some good recipes suggestions.

There is the ever-popular turtle soup. Then there's turtle jambalaya or turtle etufee'. What can you come up with? I'll have about seven pounds turtle meat to work with.

I wonder if you could smoke turtle meat. I'll bet it's too lean.

Tom, you must have posted that from your iPhone...

I had some turtle burgers on one of the Cayman Isles some years back. Honestly, they weren't very good, but it could have been the recipe that wasn't up to par.

Tom's two turtles are in a bathtub...
One turtle says to the other turtle "Hey, can you pass the soap".
The other turtle says "what do you think I am, a toaster?"

What species of turtle are you planning to kill?
You may be breaking a few laws, there Tom.

Box turtle, and it's open season year round for this species and bag limit is two. Do you think I'm dumb enough to poach or to not know the laws before I bring game home, my friend? Remember, I have Google and the Florida Wildlife Commission website on my belt in the smart phone holster at all times. I check these things. I am an ethical outdoorsman. It's not legal size or out of season, back to nature it goes.

They're staying in a holding tank for a week to clean out, and they'll be dipped in boiling water and scrubbed right after slather and before I pierce the skin other than the coup de gras decap. I've cleaned and dressed lots of wild game in my day. I do appreciate the thought and concern, though.

And I went back out night fishing last night. I fished the St Lucie Canal And I caught my first ever snook. What can I say? First time lucky Because the snook was 42 inches And Wade 26 or so pounds. Now Chinook are out of season And I couldn't have kept this old girl anyway. Should not have a slot of keepers being between 28 and 32 inches. At 42 inches she was too big to keep.

Now snookk hit like a freight train. This fish actually hurt me she hits my line so hard. My back is killing me. Time to take a pain pill eat some breakfast and go to bed.

Come on Mr Stormcrowe, you couldn't have caught box turtles while fishing, no way, they can barely swim. Maybe Red/yellow Ear sliders? Post pics please.

Sorry, ILB, my use of the name "Box" turtle was a Northern Indiana regional thing from my childhood is all. The exact identification is indeed a red ear slider, though. We called 'em Box or "Painted" turtles when I was a kid and the old habit is still there. These are actually invasive and threaten a couple native species her in S Fla, by the way.

They're also a PITA if they're in the area and you're fishing fore catfish. They love stinkbait made with chicken liver, and that's what I was using.

So if the turtles are an invasive species, why the bag/size limit?
