Worst actor of all time

For reasons I don't understand I watched almost 20 mins of Dark Shadows last night.
Johnny Depp can, without a doubt, make the worst movies in all of cinematic history. God he's awful. And the same awful over and over and over again.

I understand he's going to be Tonto in the new Lone Ranger movie. Evidently they are going to try and make the slaughter of entire villages of American Indians funny. Hopefully that movie will finally end Depp's career.

gitarzan 07-03-13 11:06 AM

Doubt it. He's not afraid to pick up odd roles, for sure.

I always thought Tony Curtis was the worst. He read his lines off with a boring monotone.

I always thought Sylvester Stallone had that title.

If you've watched any of the Tour on NBC Sports you've seen this advert with some pair of football playing twins trying sell something, I don't know what because not only do they have no expression that's human it sounds like their mouths are full of mashed potatoes. I kind of go blank when they start talking and don't come back to my senses until, for no apparent reason, these cheerleaders fall from some unseen height into their arms.

BenzFanatic 07-03-13 11:49 AM

Yea Depp is definitely up there in bad actors, despite a couple good movies, but I think Crispin Glover should take the number 1 title.

colorider 07-03-13 11:50 AM

I like Depp usually but I agree that Dark Shadows was terrible and they probably made three too many Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

bikeguyinvenice 07-03-13 11:51 AM

Too many bad actors to give the award to just one.
Here are some of my nominations
David Schwimmer (Friends)
Russel Crowe
Jean Claude Van-Damme
Val Kilmer
Those are the ones right on the top of my mind.

bikecrate 07-03-13 12:08 PM

I don't know...I'd rather watch Depp than Keanu Reeves or Richard Gere. At least he looks like he's not taking his roles too seriously.

It's easier to name his good movies than his bad.
Good or at least fun movies: Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, the first Pirate movie.
Bad to god awful: all the rest.

Does it have to be a guy? Lots of horrible actors of both sexes out there. Like Marina Sirtis. She almost ruins Next Gen for me, sometimes.

... did she ever act anywhere else ever again?

jsharr 07-03-13 12:53 PM

Are we sure Johnny Depp is a guy?

I think he deserved an Oscar for Ed Wood definitely his best role.

Allen 07-03-13 01:06 PM

Ed Wood was spectacular.

I would have like Ed Wood more if the character would have walked on logs or worn more scarves and bracelets and ear rings, but that is just me.

genec 07-03-13 01:09 PM

Russell Brand. Can't stand him in anything.

I think he did all of that in Ed Wood. Scarves and ear rings no doubt. And there was defiantly some wobbly walking going on.
Bela Lugosi was the actor in that movie that was entirely made of accessories however.

I did not know Johnny Depp played the part of Richard Simmons?

I always kinda liked that about Depp - he didn't usually go for the obvious beefcake roles...and in spite of that, he's not going anywhere, as long as people continue to pay $ to look at him up there. I'm guessing that will continue as long as he ages as well as he has.

That's the (male) actor that comes to mind when I think "bad."

For me, the single most unwatchable acting performance of all time might well be Sofia Coppola in The Godfather III. That it is given in the weakest third of one of the otherwise best trilogies in cinematic history - and REEKS of especially ill-advised nepotism - just makes it worse.

They're doing amazing things with makeup and wardrobe these days.

What about Benny and Joon?

jsharr 07-03-13 01:25 PM

I would love to see Depp and Reeves together. Bill and Ted's Excellent Pirate Adventure would be most excellent.
