This might help when anticipating long zoom situations. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...bon_Fiber.html Very inexpensive for carbon fiber, but was pleasantly surprised. The twist releases are very smooth. The basic Manfrotto monopod head (flips horizontal/vertical) fits nicely.

I got the older model Nikon COOLPIX P100.
They're decent cameras:

cool new (to you) Nikon. My first digital was a Nikon which my parents still have, followed by an Olympus that's still around somewhere, but been a Canon user since then. Not to threadjack ya, bu here's what I picked up today (camera body only, lens I've had for a while now)

Not bad- I've been shopping for a replacement for my camera, which is ancient in technology years (2 megapixel). There's other used P500's going for about $200.

2 megapixel is kind of old but i think they go over board on the megapixel wars i rather have a 2 megapixel with good glass then a 16 megapixel with bad glass

Another option to used is factory refurbished. With used, you have to guess at condition and there is no warranty for second owners - even if the camera was still in the original warranty time. With factory refurbished, it has been checked out by factory technicians and comes with a short 90 day warranty. No $200, but here is the P500 in choice of colors for $250. http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikon...ctID.235410700 Canon has similar.

That's why a Nikon (used or refurbished) is attractive. My even-more-ancient Nikon EM 35mm SLR took good photos, even when the photographer's technique sucked. I've decided to enter the 21st century.
