Find a copy of of Erma Franklin (Aretha's sister) singing the original, I've still got my 45rpm single bought back in the day.

I was unaware of Erma Franklin's version. So I went an listened to it. It's nice. But I much prefer Janis Joplin's version. Why? Passion!

Erma informs me that she is feeling bad. Janis rips open her chest and displays the bloody and still-beating heart and communicates the pain that she feels.

At the same time, I can see why you would prefer Erma. You seem to like things a bit more cerebral. That's fine too. We can both listen to our preferred version. But thanks for telling me about Erma. She's good.

You had to go and dig that one out of the grave, didn't you. Stuff like this is worse than what Wesley Willis does because this is done by professionals with proper resources who should know better and should be able to do better, yet they produced this. And then other professionals promoted it. Oh, the humanity!

Any song with a drum solo longer than 3 seconds; i.e Cream/Ginger Baker and similar self indulgent B.S.

Meh!

The ladies of Foo will particularly enjoy this.

So... not a fan of Krupa or Rich ?

Worst? There is far too many to list. Pretty much: ANY Rap music, most boy band garbage, boys that sound like they are squeezing their bag when they sing (Beiber), anything by The White Strips, etc.

Correct; plus I don't consider instrumental jazz music (or opera or classical music) as "songs." Perhaps you do.

I heard this little gem on the radio when I got up to go to the bathroom this morning and thought it belonged here:

Technically, you are correct, song and sing having the same root. In common use though, it seems that there are also instrumental songs.

I've always hated Bruce Springsteen's version of Pink Cadillac. He just drones on and on and on..............

ka0use 09-08-13 08:46 PM

I never have to hear "Brand New Key" for as long as I live but otherwise, Melanie (Safka) is a very fine singer who might have regretted penning that song that she will forever be associated with.

She was in my opinion the female voice version of the gargle with boiling oil every morning voices of John Kay and Brian Johnson. Applied to something more interesting than the likes of Kris Kristopherson songs (nothing against him, and I do like the highwaymen) she could have been quite something.

Motley Crue. Vince Neal's voice is like finger nails on a chalkboard.

Same kind of self indulgence is why my vote for worst goes to Jose Feliciano doing 'Light My Fire'.

Although I wouldn't say it's the worst song of all time, I would say that I am all but eager to change the station when it comes on. Sort of curious if they just completely ripped off the Postal Service and other bands, or if there is any original aspects at all....

Well that's just a crime against music, Rush is a mandatory like for anyone that was alive in the 70's and beyond. Rush rules.

Some epic awfulness listed so far, but these two deserve serious consideration for Worst Ever:

(1) "Hot Blooded" by Foreigner. As much as I detest "I Want to Know What Love Is" and the rest of their horrid power ballads, the repetitiveness of the tune and the utter stupidity of the lyrics make "Hot Blooded" a hot mess.

(2) Madonna's cover of "American Pie," which also makes the short list of worst covers ever. Talk about somebody not getting it . . . .

And if you want to hear 'em, look 'em yourselves. Then it'll be your fault, not mine.:p

Early reports are indicating that Miley Cyrus' new album will undoubtedly make this list...
