Tried them and did not work for me. I found myself smoking much more just because I could. It also gives u nicotine which I want off my body. It was gonna turn out too expensive as well. Even though the amount equal to a pack of smokes is cheaper you end up spedning more because your consumption skyrockets (mental thing). I think its best to suffer intensely for a few days and get it over with. Besides, it aint that bad by now.

Still clean too. Driving is the absolute worst without smokes, right? I had a pretty horrible few-hour long craving this morning, but it has mostly subsided. I've just been thinking about all the benefits and whatnot, and it's helped a ton. I feel like even my complexion is looking better already.

And personally, I think most of the stop-smoking aids like gum and patches are kind of a scam... But it definitely depends on the person. I just knew I'd be better off just quitting, getting the physical part over with, and trying to forget about it.

Congratulations on making it so far!

You might consider getting the inside of your car detailed to get rid of smoke residue. Or at least spray it with Febreeze or get a hanging air freshener.

Hope you are doing fine and still off the smokes.

I used a nicotine substitute way back when they first came out. It was the gum. I needed it. It took a while to get off the gum but at least I could breathe.

Same. I have never touched them. As a kid my father took us to an open house at a University hospital where they had preserved bisected lungs of a smoker. That was enough to convince me not to start. Of course, being an asthmatic was also an influence.

A fellow I work with also had success with electronic cigarettes. When I gave up coffee, I found a habitual substitute was all that was needed. I drank hot water instead. I know it isn't the same as nicotine but you get the idea.

I smoked for about 25 years and quit cold turkey when I had to stay in the hospital for 3 days after a surgury. I kind of figured that I was 3 days tobacco free so I gave it a shot. It also helped that I couldn't drive and I didn't want to ask my wife to go and get me a pack. It was actually easier than I thought it wouod be, but everyone is different. I ate about a bag of hard candy a day for a while and put on a few pounds, but in my mind I added years to my life. The wierdest part for me was that I used to dream that I was smoking and be terrified that I would have to quit again, then wake up and be relieved that it was only a dream. I'm about 15 years smoke free now, and the weight is gone thanks to re-discovering how much I enjoy bike riding. Good luck, it's worth it. I have watched my father, then my mother, then my mother in law, then my step mother in law all waste away from lung cancer. They all said the same thing, that if they could go back, they never would have started smoking.

I be dreaming I'm at a party, having a good time, lighting up a smoke and WHAM! I'd wake up in a cold sweat thinking I'd somehow started again.

I quit, hopefully for the last time, in the summer of 2011. Not sure if it was before or after the basal cell carcinoma appeared on my face, though that may have been a secondary concern when compared to the money. By then, I had developed a taste for roll-ups, but even that tobacco was becoming more costly. I had quit before and was clean almost the entire time I was married from 2001 until 2010. When I got free and realized I no longer had to answer to anyone about that, well, it was too easy to get started again. Prior to that, I started sometime around age 15 and stopped around age 23 or 24.

My doctor told me that I needed to start taking niacin and fish or flaxseed oil to repair or lessen any cardiovascular damage that I might have done, and L-Arginine to boost my circulation. I started doing those things prior to having the basal cell removed, and the dermatologist said all those factors helped me scar less than I would have without making changes.

I just wish there was a way to gently convince my GF to quit. She smokes these skinny menthols, though I think back in the day, she may have been a Camel or Marlboro lights user. If I have done my math correctly and understand her story, she has been hooked for at least 23 years. Seems a long time to do that without some kind of ill effects, and I would hate to lose her in the future cause of something like that.

I am two or three cigs from having to fight that battle again, so I have to be careful and disciplined.

Everyone has those days. Hell that sounds like my day exactly except for the crying (I almost did). Like MV said, it will pass, one more day, one more day.

What does the cigarette do for you that makes all those things better?

For me it is looking at what is most important to me in this world, I really love tobacco but I love my wife and daughters more.

Healthwise, it has never bothered me and my doctor thinks I was a bit of a freak to have VO2 numbers that were as good as a professional hockey player when I was smoking a pack a day.

I have always been able to start and stop smoking without any craziness, sparking up my pipe from time to time won't give me cravings and I find it to be quite relaxing and enjoyable.

I associate cigarettes with a much more hostile mindset and if I ever think about smpking it is usually when I am really stressed out... And the cost is what is really crazy.

If you have a craving do something relaxing and enjoyable, like riding your bike or anything you don't normally associate with smoking as the ritual is as bad as the physical habit.

I quit starting.
I tried and tried...and tried to smoke. But i realized it was to difficult for me so i gave up. 1 day for sure i hope.

It's really hard to explain.. It's like any other drug. It chills u out and makes you happy! Right now a cigarette to me sounds like sitting down and seeing unicorns with a chocolate fountain coming out of the horn into my mouth while receiving a massage from 3 sexy asian ladies. hHmmm or if you ride bicycles it gives you the same feeling you get when you are done with a nice bike ride
