I have to say I am impressed I kept my word... I was kind of joking or just giving it a try and it ended up with me not smoking. I still think I'll go back. Just not yet As long as I keep thinking that way one day after another I think I'll be good.

My niece is celebrating her two year anniversary of quitting today. She said she opened a box of clothes that she had in storage for three years and threw them right into the garbage they stank so bad.

DO NOT think that! Do not let the evil tobacco companies win!

November is the Great American Smokeout. Time to get a plan in place.

Update: Still off the smokes since Sept 22 of 2013. I have to admit, smoked like 4 cigars during the holidays but haven't smoked one since. Dropped more weight too. I think I started this thread @ 180+/-, now down to 162 this morning ! Don't think about smoking unless there is somebody smoking in front of me.

Everything is great! Probably going to be buying a house, getting married, and hopefully changing jobs this year. Looking forward to it. Thanks for asking!

Not to change the subject but have you seen the commercials for anti-smoking with the lady and the trach? Oh my word, if that wasn't a ploy to stop smoking I don't know what is! I can't even eat when it comes on.

Wow! Congrats on all of those milestones, way to go Seems like it's gonna be a big year for you. Best wishes.

On the commercial, have not seen it. Maybe we should post it up here so it may help some of those still balancing on the pole of uncertainty?

My friends father, a 1 1/2 pack a day smoker decided he wanted to quit, so he did. This was back in the days before patches, gum, or e-cigs. He just quit, and that was the end of that. IMHO, you deciding to quit smoking is the most important factor.
Hang tough, and good luck!

I witnessed only one first cigarette experience. A kid at a high school bus stop suddenly exploded into coughing. He sounded like he was dying. I did not know the cause of his coughing until later when I saw him smoking. In retrospect, pretty funny. Also sad.

Excellent! Those cigars would have got me. I know from experience.

And losing weight too; now that makes me seriously jealous.

I quit at 27 years old after more than 10 years and a couple of previous tries. (I'm 63 now.) I didn't do it by thinking about smoking every day or the "One day at a time" method. I just forgot about it and that's when I started riding a bike. I never considered going back so it just never was an option.

Anything mental like that's in your capabilities is possible when you put your mind to it.

Quitting smoking is the best thing I ever did for myself. Going on 37 years now. Think I'm just about over that one day at a time part.
Oh, and I did it cold turkey, once and for ever, never back slid. (Breaking my arm patting myself on the back)

I quit smoking in Nov 2005. Looked at the cigarette I was smoking one day (last of the pack at that) and asked myself "what the F am I doing?" Quit that day, had one a few months later (really really really bad night at work) and that was it.

The cravings never go away. At least not for me, I enjoyed smoking, i loved the buzz, and since I only smoked premium (Camel turkish royal, or parliament lights), the taste was good. However, every spring when I'd get back on the bike, my lungs hurt for days afterwards. My lungs rarely hurt anymore unless I get a bad cold And... I rarely get colds since I quit smoking, have not had strep throat, tonsilitis, or anything since quitting. 100x healthier is no joke (except the excess weight).

Keep up the good work, and think of the money your saving!

Update: Given in to drinks and smoking. Due to my dad being diagnosed with lung cancer 2 weeks back I gave in and have smoked about 5 cigarettes in the past 2 weeks. Trying to stay away from it but the stress is pretty awful. I've also had a few drinks + quit my job. Now I am left on a limb. Keep exercising though although much less. Need to get back on track. Ironic, smoking is relieving the stressed caused by a smoking related cancer...

dude....really sorry about your dad's dx.
Take a moment and think about it though....you smoking isn't going to help him, and may put you in his place someday.

Thank you. Totally agree, I havent smoked in a few days now and I am staying away from it. However his lack of wanting to exercise and at least make himself active is somewhat depressing!
