A guilty pleasure By the time this song came along I thought I'd outgrown arena rock bands, but it's hard not to like this song with all the hooks. The 2 GQ rock star / 2 nerd lineup of Cheap Trick is pretty cheesy but these guys can play their instruments - Surrender live on Midnigh Special

How about some classic Chicago (1977 - back when Terry Kath (guitar) was still alive). I've seen these guys twice (back in the Terry Kath days, and then years later without him and Peter Cetera on bass/vocals). Sadly, they are nothing like they used to be. Robert Lamm (keyboards/vocals) and the horn section (James Pankow/Walter Parazaider/Lee Lochnane) are the only ones left!

These guys have served as an inspiration to me and my musical creativity, writing, arranging, etc... If/When I ever get back into playing in a band, or forming my own, it will have a horn section!

A couple from Becker/Fagen - The Early Years. Less refined than their later stuff. But still unmistakably SD.

One of the Biggest bands of the 70's deserves to be here, ABBA,

The very first ABBA song that spoke to me was SOS. No lightweight pop song here.

Linda Ronstadt has been posted already but I have to post this,

Poor Poor Pitiful Me,

Fantastic Voice, fantastic song, fantastic guitar outtro. ALL time classic guitar riff and I still don't know who it is playing.

EDIT: Not safe for work. If you haven't figured it out from the title.

We were SO innocent in the 70's. This was a top 10 hit in Australia and most of us had no idea what it was about,

Supernaut, I like it both ways,

Anthony

The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac WERE the '70's. With a side of Don McLean...

The Beat

This is the band that caused the English Beat to have to add "English" to their name here in the US. Paul Collins had the name 1st in the US. In the UK, this Beat band goes by the Paul Collins Beat. So many Beats, so few hits for our Beat, but I think they're pretty good. I used to play them on my show at UNC-Wonderful in '79
