Happy Columbus Day & Thanksgiving Day to those in Canada

So do you think Columbus was the first European to discover North America? I don't seems like there were others before him.
Now a question to the Canadians that frequent this board. How do you celebrate your Thanksgiving day? Do you feast on turkey like we do here in the States?

I am not Canadian, but I have played one on TV.

Canadian eat poutine and drink Molson for Thanksgiving Day.

There seems to be ample evidence that lots of other Europeans got to American way before Columbus did.

Columbus was awful. I don't know why we "celebrate" him.
The Oatmeal summed it all up pretty fantastically. Read this: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/columbus_day

Columbus brought the cocoa bean to Europe. Chocolate!

He also missed discovering the Pacific Ocean by about 10 miles.

Well that was interesting reading. Even some things in there I was not aware of. Personally I think Columbus day is stupid. It's just a day on the calender to me.I think we here in the states have too many holidays and some should be done away with.

And maybe Africans

And Egyptians

The reed boats in Lake Titicaca are made from the exact same reeds and design as the Egyptians used.

And Chinese

Even the Russians claim to: but then again, back then they were just the ancestors of the Native Americans.

Like it or not, old Columbus kicked off a chain of events that are still unfolding. For that we must at least acknowledge his contribution.

So, enjoy what Burning Spear has to sing. "Christopher Columbus (is a d*** blasted liar)"

And here's what Christopher himself had to say.

Columbus Day -- meh. Holiday, my smart ass -- it's not a holiday if I don't get paid for it. (Sometimes, even if I DO!)

Mass murderer, slaver, poor navigator, quitter.
