Happy Birthday Transistor Radio! AKA The Birth of Rock&Roll.

59 years ago today the first transistor radio was shipped.

Texas Instruments brought the first portable radio, soon to be followed by a cheap Japanese copy by some company that would be called Sony, to market. The radio was called the Regency Radio.

The portable nature of the radio allowed teens to escape the purview of their parents and listen to the godless rhythm and blues.

I lost my first transistor radio while doing my paper route - sometime around 1968.

I remember the days when if you had a nine transistor radio you were the cock of the rock.

I have one from that era. Is it valuable?
I probably got it in the early 1960's. It says Sony, all transistor. I just tested it, it's fine.

My grandparents gave one of these to me on my 8th Birthday. Changed my world. It immediately became my alarm clock(probably much to the delight of my mother WLCY, One Thirty Eight!
