your current phone is...?

Upgraded from Samsung s2 to s4 recently. Battery life is the major issue. Iíve test my new S4 and the performance is not bad. From full charge to 1%,it lasts almost one day(medium usage),but I am kind of used to using extended battery offers multiple times battery life instead of carring portable charger while go for a ride, so i also ordered an extended battery of mpj, which I was recommended Ö Post a pic photographed by the new phone!

I feel so un-worthy. I am still using my 3+ year old iPhone 4, not even the 4s, just the 4. Funny thing is, other than being slow, it still works great, battery is still really good at taking and holding a charge. It takes about 90% and I can run my cyclemeter app in the background for 6+ hours and still have some power left over.

iPhone 4. Battery is starting to show it's age, it seems -- either that or it's iOS7.

Looking to upgrade/replace shortly. WIth family and friends all on Apple, iMessage and Facetime + my installed app base make it likely I'll go 5s, though I'm looking hard at the Sony Z1 as a possible (waterproof) alternative.

I'd buy another apple, just because they seem to last forever, they are like the Toyotas or Hondas of the cell phone business. But I am not sure about which provider I would choose. I was with at&t then when the contract was up I switched it to the straight talk network, uses at&t's towers, just cheaper. But last time I checked some of the low cost carriers most had the price of their iPhones jacked way up, $500 on Virgin mobile I believe. Not sure I would want to spend $500 on a phone.

I was out of contract so could go with any carrier and was holding out for the iPhone 5s supply to increase but wife's phone forced the issue. Last week switched from ATT to T-Mobile, getting rid of my HTC Inspire and getting an LG G2. Battery life has been phenomenal and despite slight menu differences the android structure was consistent so able to make necessary adjustments - like silencing the beep every time an email or something came in which was particularly annoying at 3 AM. While I view T-Mobile as the weakest of the 3, I like their pricing structure the best as they drop the price when the phone is paid for while the others don't separate it out, so ATT kept the embedded cost recovered during the 2 year contract and continued to charge me. What really elevated T-Mobile was their new policy on international coverage - and my daughter just announced that I have an international wedding coming up. Previously, I essentially turned my phone off when traveling internationally to avoid excess roaming charges. Only concern is coverage, but I have until the 28th in the 14 day return period.

Also, their jump program seems reasonable - and a setup for jumping to Apple in 6 months. Rumor has it that the iPhone 6 in Spring 2014 and will have a 4.7" screen. With the possibility of Jumping, it also meant minimal up front which ruled out the HTC One @ $99, leaving the S4 and the G2 at zero down, and all android models were $25/mo. The 5c was a consideration at $50 down as all Apples had a monthly payment of $20.80/mo and would have made up most of the difference over time. Previously purchased insurance from Radio Shack (where got the prior phones) for $15 total for both phones - and intended to get insurance on the new phones. While T-Mobile is $10/phone, $8 represents comprehensive insurance, including loss/theft, and $2 represents the Jump program.

You pay it one way or another...and each of the top end phone are in the $650-699 range irrespective of manufacturer. Low cost carriers don't embed the payment for the phone to create their low cost. They make sense when you pay off your old phone in a 2 year contract with Sprint/Verizon/ATT as they are going to keep charging you the elevated cost to 'pay' for the phone you have already paid for. That assumes you don't want/need a new phone. Then it is a matter of matching the low cost carrier to the system supported by your phone. Rubbing salt on the wound of not reducing price, ATT created AIO as a low cost carrier, and I looked into it as they are springing up everywhere, use unlocked ATT compatible phones, and they "use the ATT network." Further research (Consumer Reports and internet search) was that they limited it to 4G or lower, not 4G LTE - and most people don't know the difference as they hear "4G".

Well yeah, I know you pay for it either way, but it hurts less when it's spread out over 2 year contract. And switching my 4 over to a budget carrier made sense, it is limited to 3g, but the iPhone 4 is only a 3g phone anyway. When it comes time to replace it, I will have to do some shopping around.

Selling both the RAZR's XT912 $150 each on CL..

This is mine:

Being a single income family (grad student(her) + teacher(me) = not a large paycheck), we couldn't afford an expensive smartphone, or the data plans that you're forced to get with them. All I need is talk + text.
We have 2 phones on our plan, and with the 200 txts/month for both of us, we were only paying about $60-70/month. Which, personally, I think is still $45 too much. But my wife's crappy Blackberry was just completely terrible so she finally upgraded to an iPhone 3GS last summer, for 99 cents. We were forced to get the cheapest data plan, 300MB for $20. So, she has the old iPhone, and I have the flip phone, and we pay about $80-90/month now, depending on overages and taxes/fees, etc.
I'll eventually be upgrading to an iPhone once we both have jobs.

Think is, I LOVE my phone because it's small, and actually fits in my pocket. Sure the new smartphones look really nice, but holy crap you could play ping-pong with them they are so large. I don't get it. The iPhone is as large as I would want. If you're so concerned with screen size because you want to internet and watch media on your stupid phone, then get a tablet.

I still have my old not-as-smart phone (LG env2) just in case I need a backup. I could still read my email on it, and Verizon released Opera Mini for it. It was a great phone. But when renewal time came, we were staring at a cross-country move and potentially weeks without reliable Internet at home (a way bigger deal for Mrs. A, she is at home with the kids), so we sprang for the data plan and the smartphones.

Using a HTC Sprint-branded EVO 3D with Ting. Literally $50/mo cheaper than when I was with Sprint. And I use it the same way. The phone has been pretty good. I'll probably go with one of the not-so-huge Galaxy models when this HTC dies.

We have paleophones. Chipped out of flint.

I use a Tracfone LG420g flip phone. I only use it for occasional brief calls and a few texts. It has a camera and browser but I never use them. Costs me about $10/mo to keep it going.

My SO uses his cell phone even less. He has an old Tracfone V170 flip phone that works fine for the few times he has to make a call on it. I put $20 worth of minutes on it every 3 months.

There is a good tracfone discussion group on yahoogroups and several people on there have bought the newest android tracfones and have been reviewing them as they learn about them. I have learned a lot of good info from that group and found out about good deals on minutes and bonus codes when people post about them.

I have an android tablet (Google N7) that I use on wifi and have been happy with.

Only person on the planet (well not true there ARE others) without a Smartphone and proud of it. I absolutely see no value in SmartPhones and their expensive data plans. Plus I have a life and don't need to be glued to another computer 24/7....

OK off my soapbox now...

iPhone 5s.

I bought my first smartphone (iPhone 4) at launch so I upgrade every 2 years. In the DC Metro area, I can sell it for what I paid for after getting the carrier to unlock the phone. So it is like free upgrade every 2 years. And the iPhone seems to be the best in holding its values.
