Your LG Smart TV just phoned home

I'd be surprised if it were only LG who are doing this.

Apparently "viewing habits" include filenames on USB devices connected to the TV as well.

And they're "investigating"? They know what they're doing, they just need time to cook up a bunch of excuses. The UK blogger who found out about this already received a reply from their customer "service" that it's their retailer's job to inform customers about data collection. If I've understood correctly, that's their only possible escape in the UK as all such info must be presented at point of sale. Any later (such as showing pages of terms and conditions when you power up the device for the first time) and it's legally not binding.

To err is human. To moo is bovine.

Who is this General Failure anyway, and why is he reading my drive?

Between this and the security audits on the Samsung Smart TVs... it doesn't seem like they are all that smart.

My thought on all the "smart devices" that spy on their owners is, who cares? I mean I don't give a hoot that the company that makes my T.V. or set top box, or blue ray player or even my phone know I watch a lot of the discovery channel or the history channel.

Once it goes into a database, the NSA will get it's grubby little paws on it.

Well they will need a bigger island if they send all the fans of the mythbusters off to a penal colony, perhaps the U.S. can invade and take over Australia and use that as a prison

Wow, reason number 14 to only watch old videos...

Of course one has to wonder how much of this type of data is being collected by local cable vendors and sites such as Hulu and Netflix... no doubt there are loads and loads of files out there to determine that yes, the typical American male has watched "American Pie" more than once...

Ouch, seriously, I have only ever watched "American Pie" once. I don't even think I've seen the whole thing. I really don't see what the fuss about "American Pie" was. It's certainly not a nostalgic trip back to when I was young, I wasn't trying to get laid in my senior year, it was pretty much a given with a steady girlfriend.

Now "Dazed and Confused." There's a movie that takes me back. Every single character I can give a name of a friend for.

Well if you can advertise it on BF, you might make some dough, seems like there are some paranoid users here.
