    Took the homemade hickory bow

to the range yesterday. Using some Port Orford Cedar self nocked arrows and a 40cm face at 20m. This thing flings those little spears pretty well. Even managed to shoot one 26 out of a possible 30. I think this bow is gonna be fun. I also think I eventually try a fiberglass laminate recurve.....but that's not gonna be anytime real soon.

sure...there's various categories you can compete. Using this, I would go under the modern longbow division.

hmmm ... this thread reminds me of being a boy sitting with my friends on the ground, the smell of fall leaves and us all making our own slingshots and shooting acorns at squirrels. thanks for the flashback!

    Love that bow!!
What wood is it made from? Where did you get the wood?
As a kid 1950's-1960's we were all fascinated by bows and arrows.
We-8 yo-would take a green branch-of ANYTHING- string it -and shoot some cockeye arrow from it-
doubt we got more than 40 ft range-but it was fun.
    Boyscouts-so we all went to camp-shot 25-30 lb bows-some wood-most fiberglass
Yeah I have been tempted to get a bow-shoot in my hallway-25 feet long
but we have a leggy dog-greyhound-and four nosy cats-so that is out
Backyard-neighbors would call the cops on me- wouldn't blame them

So the wood-where did you get it? Guess on draw weight?
    Thanks
    charlie
PS- Wife has zero enthusiasm for hallway range-no surprise!

Ordered the wood from HomeDepot.com and picked it up at the store. It's made from a hickory 1x2 and red oak for the handle.
The string is a flemish twist made from B55.
